"I think I'll go ask out Bob!" Jade exclaims suddenly with a wide smile and a squeeky giggle. Her friends know that she is referring to "Bob the Mannequin" from the discount store since it is part of a private joke between them.
Tom laughs. "You'll probably get the same response that Kory got from Russ!"
Tom and Jade chuckle over this line, and Kori good-naturedly turns up the corners of her chapped and cracked lips. Inside, she is aggravated with this comment since it is true. Russ, the boy in which she has been interested for three months, still has not told her if he wants to go out with her. Still, she waits. Lately, she is feeling more pessimistic about what Russ thinks of her.
Later that day, Kori thinks she'll drown her depression over Russ and hang out with her friends at Tom's house for what they call an "algebra party", (it is more or less a study group, but they all feel that algebra party is a much cooler name). It ends up being a total disaster. Tom and Jade end up falling more in love with one another, causing Kori to slip further into her sorrows. Donna notices this, and she has a talk privately with Kori. Many tears come out of this, and Kori tells Donna most of the problem, yet Kori is sure that Donna does not understand; Donna's practically engaged. Donna has someone, is someone's girl, and is not alone.
Not long afterwards, Kori heads home in the rain covered streets, alone. This doesn't matter much to her, that no one is with her. Even with her friends, she feels invisible, in her own world. She goes home and escapes from reality, into morbid poetry...
