The Stand
I bought this book in the airport, summer 1999. I was in Charlotte, NC, and I was headed back to Boston. I needed something to read on the plane since I had already gone through all my fanfic. After I returned to MA, my family drove me down to CT, (I was a nanny there and had taken a week off to register for classes). That's when I found out that Stephen King had been hit by a car.

When I finished reading the book, I was in South Carolina. It was a little after the day when I saw the first interview with Stephen King after the accident. It was kind of freaky how that lined up, his accident and my reading of the book.

This book is excellent! I've seen the mini-series too. Since Stephen King wrote the screenplay, it was just as awesome as the book. It's a long read but SO worth it!!!

My favourite character is Glen Bateman, the sociologist. He's got all these insightful comments about what's happening. Too bad he didn't have as big a role in the mini-series.
