Invisible Angel
gabe watched his new neighbor through his bedroom window into her bedroom. she was fully dressed. at the time she was brushing out her long, wavy ebony hair. he usually wouldnt spy on anyone, but she was incredibly beautiful. it wasnt traditional beauty, but she had one of those looks and could drive you crazy w/ her actions.
she had moved in a couple of days ago. he hadnt introduced himself to her yet. he knew a few things about her from what others told him about her. he couldnt remember who it was that actually told him.
her name was jade and she was going to be homeschooled. no one had said where she came from. gabe hadnt noticed anyone but jade in the house.
once she was done brushing her hair, she took a pink bow and tied it around her hair at the nape of her neck. her hair shined in the faint light that radiated from the other side of her room.
the mystery surrounding jade intrigued gabe even more than her extraordinary beauty. he really wanted to get to know her. the only prob he had was that he had bad luck in love. it seemed like he would be cursed to live alone.
both of his parents were dead. he lived off of what they left him and a small income that he made at a local bookstore working part time. his parents money wouldnt last forever.
he watched jade walk gracefully to her canopy bed and lie down. she spread her hair out over her pillow and turned the light off.
it was too dark in jade's bedroom for him to see anything else. he pulled the rubberband from his hair as he thought about how graceful and ladylike his neighbor seemed from afar. so far she appeared to be perfect for him, but he still wasnt sure how he was going to talk to her. he decided to think more on it in the morning.
he raked his spidery pale hand through his dark hair and laid on his bed. he closed his brown green eyes and dreamed of jade...
gabes alarm clock woke him from his troublesome dreams. he dreamed that jade was nothing but hollow in true emotion and in body. it was a horrid dream for more reasons than just 1. he shuddered at the thought.
he stood from his bed and began to get ready for school. he never hurriedly did anything. not b/c he didnt care, but so he could be prepared for anything and be able to taste his surroundings. sometimes the taste was sugary, other times it was as bitter as a rotting fruit.
he knew the world was slowly rotting away, but soemtimes he could find the right place and when hed bite down there would still be a trace of sweetness. of course any place that is used for too long either depletes or goes bad. which seemed to be the case for him so often. to tell him that he was wrong was futile b/c he would dispute it and never give up until you give in. it was a good but tiring quality about him.
once he was ready he basically tumbled out the door.
his house was a comfy size and would get rather messy when not cleaned up on at least a weekly or biweekly occurence. he didnt like to clean b/c he was rarely home and didnt have many guests over. he liked the isolation for the most part. he had lived w/ too many people of society to appreciate their company. jade had begun to change all that. he knew that he would be foolish to swear that he loved her, but he felt a longing towards her evrytime he caught a glimpse of her crystal pale blue eyes.
as he walked across his front yard, he noticed jade outside watering the pale pink flowers that trimmed her house. his eyes followed her as she worked. after she finished, she sat on the ledge of the stone fountain and caressed the petals of the water lillies w/ a frail finger. he couldve stared at that innocent image all day. it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
he was not like other males. he enjoyed all the pleasures a women could give and appreciated the female body as any other, but he saw more than that. it was even beyond her mind. it was her very fragrance and touch. even the thought of the taste of her soft lips drove him crazy. he wanted to experience all of these things from jade.
he began to walk again. inside, he assaulted himself for not speaking to her. by the time he reached school he could only think of the image of jade earlier...
he went through the motions of the day. he couldnt concentrate in any of his classes fullheartedly. not even in the classes that usually interested him. they could tear him out of the world and spit him out when they were through, but he would still appreciate any pain and frustration that he had to go through. only the thought of jade fulfilled him that way now. she brought a lot of frustration too b/c he couldnt speak to her. she also had not made any attempt to talk to him.
his mind was obsessed w/ her even though he was not. it wasnt his custom to be obsessed w/ things or people.
after the school day ended, he made his way to his job. it was not a far walk from the school.
when he arrived at work, he clocked in and stood behind the counter waiting for the arrival of customers. his job was boring, but he enjoyed being around the books. the pay wasnt bad either. w/o the arrival of any customers he decided to go on a smoke break.
he knew the habit would eventually kill him, but he excused it w/ saying that it kept him from doing worse things. he didnt care if it was the truth as long as he could make himself believe it.
he dropped the finished cigarette to the ground and walked back into the store. he wanted to start reading a new book.
when he entered, he noticed jade was going through books on a shelf. he didnt notice her entering while he was on break. he usually sees everyone who enters. nonetheless, she was there now and he was given the opportunity to learn more about her. he hoped that she would make the first move.
jade walked up to the cash register. he didnt want her to see how anxious he was to have her standing right in front of him so he took his time in addressing her.
"hello," she said shyly as she drew her fingers on her right hand back and forth along the countertop,"you are my neighbor, arent you? i believe i saw you this morning."
gabes cheeks flushed a lil until he realized that she carried no books. she wanted to talk to him. his nervousness disappeared and a smile broke through.
"i thought i had recognized you, but i wasnt sure," he replied.
gabe had to stop himself from grabbing and pulling her into his arms to hold forever.
they chatted until jade excused herself and left. they made plans for her to stop by his place the next evening to get to know each other. above being beautiful, she was intelligent and ladylike. it was the type of ladylike that fit into todays time per and still wouldve made some proud in the days of chivalry.
gabe spent the rest of his shift taking smoke breaks and waiting on very lil customers. his mind still lingered on the image of jade. his imagination danced w/ the false reality he created in his mind for the possibilities of the next evening. most of all, though, he wondered how jade felt about him...
gabe had long been ready when he heard the knock at his front door. he had impatiently been awaiting her arrival all day. he let her in and directed her to the dining room table for dinner. they talked about various subjects throughout the meal. they had many things in common. it seemed like he had programmed her. maybe god, who he no longer believed in, actually was real and sent him an angel to fulfill his evry desire. there were many possibilities, yet she seemed to be real and a mortal, and exceptional one at that.
after dinner, gabe brought jade into the den to watch a movie. during the previews she talked about how the movie pertained to her childhood. when the movie started they both became captivated by it and did not utter a word until the screen was swallowed by the credits. by that time, it was rather late.
they made another date for the following nite. she would not allow him to walk her home, but gave no reason for it.
after she left he went to his room and wrote. he also thought about past, present, and future things and even imagined things. he then laid back and fell into another troubling dream...
gabes beautiful jade stood before him. she was more beautiful than his eyes had ever seen before. her eyes sparkled w/ a new serenity. her lips parted slightly w/ a breath flowing through them that smelled of lavender. at that moment, he wanted her in evry way possible.
jade uttered not a word, but continued to stand before him in a pink dress. shapely pale legs slipped out from under a cluster of strips. she was completely motionless except for the steady movement of her chest as she breathed.
gabe wasnt entirely sure if she was really beathing or if he imagined it to make her real to him. a few strands of gabe's hair danced on his cheek. he pulled up his hand and brushed the strands behind his ear. it was done calmly, as if he was a robot going through the motions. he couldnt move his eyes away from the vision of jade.
no one moved and no word broke the silence. yet, gabe felt like his soul was taken and merging w/ jades. he fancied that jade was fading. this made him almost frantic. he tried to run towards her, but he could not move. it felt as if he was stuck in the sticky molasses that is grandmother used to use.
as a child, he would get scolded for getting the substance on his tiny child fingers and unintentionally paint objects throughout the house. that smell invaded his nostrils. he became nostalgic and disgusted at the same time. he disliked the smell and taste of molasses.
jades lips moved, but whatever she said was too soft and was carried away w/ the breeze that gabe could not feel. he swore that jade faded the closer he came to her.
finally, he reached her by then she was barely anything. he reached out to feel the ebony locks of hair filter through his fingers, but he could not grasp any of her.
crystalline tears began to fall from gabes eyes as his hands gathered air and played upon thin strands of the creation that made up his jade. she leaned foward and kissed him. as she pulled away, she once again whispered.
he heard her this time. his lips formed a sad smile. he nodded his head. their eyes said goodbye and she left his world...
gabe tried to wake from his dream until he recognized his surroundings. he was still in the land of his dream. his jade was gone. she was never anything more than a halogram that he made real. how beautiful she was. how wonderful her last words were...
from that day on, he lived by jades last words. he married a girl more beautiful than jade. she was real. they cared for 2 children, a boy and a girl. he was never alone again, but he did not forget beautiful jade who had given him evrything even though she did not belong to this world.
