She awoke and felt very achy. She felt the blood pour from the wounds to her head, arms, and chest. She looked beside herself and Erick drowsily awakened. He was hurt rather badly and was twisted because he was holding her right at the impact with the tree. The car was a mess. No body shop would ever be able to repair it.
“Are you alright?” She muttered to Erick. Her eyes were filled with so much concern as she looked over at him.
He slowly and stiffly moved himself to see if anything was broken. Her eyes filled with tears as she watched his pain. He saw the tears and wiped them away.
“I’m fine. Let’s get out of here. We probably need to get to a hospital,” Erick told her and helped her open the door on her side.
He hobbled out his side and to her. They hiked ((more like limped)) all the way to a gas station. Once there, they told the gas station attendant what had happened and he gave them a ride to the hospital.
A few days later they were both released.
“We need to start our life over. Have the life we never had,” the girl told Erick, with her eyes as bright as before all these bad things began to happen.
He nodded in reply and they walked outside. He began to count the money in his wallet.
“I have enough for some food and clothing right here. We can get all of the money from our savings at the bank. Then we can have the life we’ve dreamed of,” Erick said as he placed his wallet back in his back pocket.
The girl’s face became cheerful and she smiled so happily that she thought her cheeks would never return to their normal position. The clothes they wore now were provided by the hospital and were not what we would call the current fashion. The jeans were faded and too tight. The shirts were probably brought back from someone’s vacation and proudly stated the year 1983. They began walking hand in hand to the life they had dreamed of for a long time.
Five years later, the girl was sitting on the side of her bed, thinking about how happy and grateful she was as she stared at the ruby wedding ring that Erick gave her on their wedding day. It was a very simple wedding. There was no one, but Erick, the priest, and herself present. They were married next to a crystal clear lake in a grove of flowering trees. It was the happiest day of their life.
She stood and walked down the stairs of her beautiful home. She looked out the back window and gazed at the mountains that were a short distance from their backyard. Erick was playing with their four-year-old baby girl. They had named her Janelle. Not for any particular reason other than just liking the name. Erick was a good father so far and she hoped that would always be a good mother.
Janelle was a very pretty girl. She had long, dark hair that shined in the bright sun. She had a pale complexion like her mother. Janelle had the same beautiful green hazel eyes as her father. The girl knew that her daughter would only get more beautiful as the years went on.
She was knocked out of her trance by the crying of her son, Chris. He was two years old and as cute as Janelle was beautiful. His blond hair was almost as white as snow. He had crystal blue eyes, which puzzled Erick and her since neither of them had that color of eyes. He had a darker complexion than Janelle. The only way you could tell that Chris was even their son was by his dimples.
So that was their dream life. And that was all that it was, because in reality Erick and the girl was both dead. They had died in that car wreck. I only write this now because I know this is the life they would’ve lived if they would’ve survived. Their love will never die, but their dream life will always remain that.
