I drove a long distance to see the one I've longed to see. We have been together for some months now. Perhaps we were meant to be together. Who knows.
I arrived at this building at the same time he did. He was not expecting me so his green eyes lit up with joy and suprise. I was so overwhelmed with happiness that I thought I'd cry right there, but I was able to contain myself.
We walked slowly towards each other. He wrapped his arms around me. We smiled at each other, with our eyes sparkling with love and gratitude. I lightly kissed him as we moved towards the building.
"How did you know where I would be?" he asked me as he opened the door for me.
"I don't know. I don't even know where I am or why I am here. All I knew was that I had to see you and now... here I am," I said, telling the whole truth. now that he made me think about it, I was thrown into a deep confusion. I really didn't know where he would be or why I came here. I didn't even nkow what city or state I was in.
He seemed to be as confused as I , but there was nothing I could do to change that at the moment. We entered the lobby of the building and aimlessly walked around. I felt more confused since it seemed that he didn't even know the purpose of him being here. It was good to see each other once again. It hadn't been that long, but it seemed like forever.
We laughed and talked about everything and nothing. After a few minutes, we sat down. It was a bleacher type set-up. There weren't a lot of people, but there were a few. There were people our age to the right, but didn't remember who they were.
One from the group prepared a rubberband to hit Erick with. This upset me more than it should've.
"No! Don't you dare!" I screamed at them as I blocked Erick from the rubberband. They didn't listen, and let their rubberband fly. I caught it. For some reason, I felt that Erick would be mad at me so I stood and began to walk. I didn't know where I was going, but I just couldn't bear the look of him being upset with me.
I turned around and saw Erick following. This made me smile because it meant that he cared and wasn't mad. I decided to tease him. I saw another building ahead and walked in. The building seemed empty and sort-of run down. I walked up the stairs and reached the top floor. I listened to Erick pad up the stairs. I waited for him and walked around upstairs. He followed as fast as he could, but couldn't catch up to me.
I walked back downstairs and a weird couple was seated in the chairs in the living room. They were having a conversation about fighting and competition. They wore outfits of leather and silver spikes. I walked in and their eyes peered over at me.
"We need new competition. Something new. Maybe I'll fight a girl next," The gruffy man said in a gruffy voice. Gruffy was the perfect word for him. His leather jacket was scuffed and dust covered. His hair was peppered with grays and browns. His beard needed trimmed.
"That's no competition for you. You're too strong," The woman said with definition. She wasn't gruffy like her partner. Her leather looked comfortable and her blond hair was nicely brushed.
The man grabbed me and said back to the woman, "How about her? Yes, she will fight me."
I looked at the woman in fear.
"Fine. You two will fight or you will never see Erick again," the woman said without any pity for me. I don't even know how she knew me or Erick's name. The whole day was nothing but a huge confusion for me. I felt tears forming, but I keep them back. Suddenly, someone ran into the room and pulled me outside. I was happy for my freedom, but I knew that I had to go back to get Erick.
I walked back into the house and called out his name. I was afraid that the couple would come back, but I had to find him. I looked around and around. I opened one of the doors and there was the man, standing there with a bloody knife. I ran back down the stairs. One my way down I saw the woman. She was laying on the floor in a pool of blood. He killed his own partner.
She had changed her clothing. She wore a flowered dress. I would've stopped, but I knew I had to quickly get away from the man so I continued to run. I reached the door and the person who pulled me from the house was standing there.
I stopped in front of them. I no longer heard the man coming after me. Actually, there was nothing but silence, except for my heavy breathing.
"Remember what your mother told you about the lemon juice," the mysterious person said. They then vanished; even though, I couldn't remember my mother. Somehow I knew what they were talking about. A small bottle of lemon juice appeared in my hands. I quickly splashed some of the lemon juice on as if it was perfume.
I kept the small bit that was left in the bottle. I automatically walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of milk. A strange person appeared in the living room, which was adjacent to the kitchen. He came after me. I splashed the milk at him as best as I could.
The milk was hard to splash from the bottle, but it made the stranger back up. i held him back with milk until we entered a short hallway. I began to make a decent up the stairs, but suddenly, the pursuer was back again.
I poured the milk into his mouth and all over him and his black clothing, but nothing was working.
"Do you really think that these things will harm me?" the stranger asked me.
"You're allergic to them," I said and threw some papers at him. I then ran the rest of the way up the stairs. I continued to search for Erick. My heart was saddened. I entered another bedroom and there was my step-father and mother.
My step-father became the gruffy man and my mother became the woman. He captured me again. I begged him to take me to Erick, but he would not. When my mother left, I grabbed a bottle of 409 and sprayed the man in the eyes. He wailed with pain. He covered his eyes, trying to end the singeing, but it would not end.
My mother returned.
"I sprayed him with 409," I said,"now will you take me to Erick?"
I was crying and pleading with her. Soon, there was a look of pity and sorrow in her eyes. She agreed to my plea and took me into another room. She took a vent off of the air conditioning duct in the ceiling of the room.
"He's up there. It's hard for someone to live without some sort-of nutrition, though," she said and then called to him.
I couldn't contain myself any longer. I began to cry and yell up to Erick. I heard low mutters in answer. I told him how much I needed and wanted him. I promised him that I would save him.
"I must get to him. I have to get into the attic," I said.
"It isnt our fault. He just disappeared on his own and we just discovered he was there. I'm sorry," my mother told me.
I attempted to climb up the small vent hole, but I just hurt myself. The hole was so small that I even wondered how he got in there. I ran from the room, down the stairs, and into the garage. I fervently darted around and removed a plate that covered a hole in the ceiling. I looked up and there was a set of stairs going upwards. I tried to climb up into it, but items were thrown down from above. I didn't know who would do that.
I cried and called out to him, but there wasn't an answer. I no longer knew what to do. I stood there and cried. My heart ached as if I witnessed a thousand deaths. In my mind, I rather have seen a thousand stranges die.
I realized that those last few mutters from Erick might have been the last things uttered from him. I died myself. Without him, I am nothing. I sat and wept. Never left that spot. He was gone and so was I. Never to see the light of day again.
