Be Careful What You Wish For--Parts 1-6

~Part 1~

What the hell do you think you were doing out there?" Shane yelled as Hunter stepped through the curtain coming out of the arena.

"Whoa take it easy there Shane-o," Hunter said throwing his hands up in a mock gesture. He tried to look apologetic, but it had just been to funny and he couldn't wipe the smile off of his face.

"That was not suppose to happen!" Shane was irate, and his face was red with embarrassment.

"What was wrong with that?" Hunter smiled innocently, "The fans loved it."

"Well, I didn't!"

What was Shane so upset about? It had all been in good fun. "You need to loosen up."

"Loosen up?! You depants me on live television!" Shane grew angrier and his face turned a brilliant shade of red.

Hunter and the rest of the guys backstage had to laugh. It had been rather funny, if a tad childish. And was it really Hunter's fault that Shane wasn't wearing any underwear that day? That had just been pure luck.

Shane didn't see anything humorous about the situation. He had gone out to the ring in good faith, Hunter had called him out as a gesture of peace between DX and the McMahons. Shane couldn't believe he had bought that. Some peace gesture, it had turned out to be nothing more than another DX prank, and it was the last straw. The laughter was becoming unbearable.

"Stop laughing!"

Hunter quickly stopped and extended his hand in apology, "Sorry man, didn't mean to make you the butt of my joke." Everyone burst out laughing at the pun.

Stephanie did her best not to smile. "Hunter stop," she said, trying to make a little peace. She turned to her brother, "He didn't mean it Shane."

Shane looked down at his little sister, exasperation clearly showing on his face. "Look I'm trying Steph, I really am but he's not. He never takes anything seriously." It still galled Shane to no end that his sister was involved with this Degenerate.

"He will Shane," she turned back to her husband, giving him a pleading look. "Hunter apologize."

Hunter tried to stop laughing and put on a serious face. "She's right. I'm sorry Shane, I guess I made an ass out of myself."

That remark had the whole backstage area in peals of laughter, which got even louder as Shane stormed off in a huff. The only one not laughing was Stephanie. She sighed as she watched her brother stomp off. This wasn't going to be easy.

```````````````````
Shane sat alone in his office, the only light coming from the lamp on his desk. He was still upset over the events of the night. Most everyone else had gone home for the evening, but Shane was determined to be the last one to leave. He was just too embarrassed to face anyone. He went over to the wet bar and poured himself a stiff drink before sitting back down to wallow in his misery. He didn't even hear the door open.
"So I hear you'll be using Billy's theme from now on," came a warm friendly voice. Shane looked up to see Maggie Dalton, his personal secretary for the last 5 years.
"You too, Maggie?" he said with a hurt look on his face.
Maggie quickly became serious. "I'm sorry. I take it that was not exactly planned." Maggie, more than anyone, knew Shane could never be that spontaneous, it just wasn't in him.
"Not by me anyway." He shook his head. "I must be crazy! How could I promise my sister to try and get along with that degenerate she calls a husband?"
"You're not crazy." She came behind him and started rubbing his shoulders the way she knew he liked. "What you are is a guy who loves his sister and is trying to make her happy."
"I just wish she didn't need him to make her happy." He slammed the glass down on his desk, spilling some of its contents.
Maggie stopped rubbing his shoulders and sat down on the edge of the desk, facing Shane. "You need to take your mind off of it. You wanna get something to eat?"
Maggie had been suggesting that they go out somewhere, but Shane was either too preoccupied, too dense, or just too male to get it. "Yeah I am hungry. Why don't you go ahead and order some Chinese takeout from the brochure. Get yourself some too. My treat."
The smile faded from Maggie's face and she went back into employee mode. "No problem, Boss."
````````````````````````````````

Stephanie hadn't said a word the entire way to the hotel and the silence was really beginning to get to Hunter. "Come on Babe. How long are you gonna be mad over this?" he asked her as they walked into their hotel room.

"I think I'm entitled to a little anger don't you?" She said as she tossed the keys onto the table.

"I already told you I was sorry." He pulled her in to kiss her, but she pushed him away.

She was getting tired of this. It was always the same old thing. Hunter and Shane would never see eye to eye and she was always going to be caught in the middle. It was exhausting to say the least and she had had enough of it. "Hunter how do you ever expect my family to accept you if you keep doing things like this?"

"I don't know," he said sincerely. He could see what this was doing to his wife, but he just didn't see any way to remedy it. No matter what, he and Shane were never going to see things each other's way. "I try. I really do but they're just such easy marks. Besides your family is just too uptight. Especially Shane."

"But you know that, so why do you keep pushing that? That's the whole problem. They're too serious, you're not serious enough." Stephanie was frustrated by the whole situation and it had been building up for so long that it had her on the verge of tears.

Hunter saw the emotions play across her face and pulled her in to him. He really hated what this was doing to her. "Hey, I love you, you know that, right? Everything else will work out. I promise." He leaned down and kissed her tenderly.

Stephanie sighed, "I hope so." She didn't know how much more arguing she could take. She put on a tired smile. "I'll be to bed in a minute."

"Hurry up," he called after her.

She walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water on her face, then turned to look out the window at the sky full of stars. It was so beautiful. She smiled as she thought of all the wishes that she'd made when she was a little girl. Silly wishes for a boy to like her, for no school the next day, for a role in the school play. She decided to make one last silly wish. She picked out the biggest star she could find and closed her eyes. "I wish Shane and Hunter could see things from the others point of view."

~Part 2~

After Stephanie had made the wish she closed her eyes. If she had kept them open she would have seen the star shooting straight across the sky.

````````````````````
The women's division had just recently been placed under Shane's supervision and he was looking at ways to revamp it. He was reading through some angles the new creative team had suggested and reached up to rub his eyes. When he looked back down the papers were gone, as were his desk and the rest of his office. In shock he realized that he was in bed, but it wasn't his bed. How much had he had to drink? Where was he and what time was it? He looked down at his watch, but realized that it wasn't his watch and it wasn't his wrist. He lifted the sheet and realized nothing else was his either. Just then he looked up to see Stephanie coming out of the bathroom in her little baby-doll nightie.
"Are you ready for me Hunter?" she smiled seductively.
Shane let out a bloodcurdling scream.
```````````````````````````````````````

Hunter was sitting in his bed, impatiently waiting for Stephanie to come out.

"Ok close your eyes," she called out from inside the bathroom.

Hunter did. He waited... and waited... and waited. After what seemed like five minutes had passed, Hunter began to wonder what games Stephanie was playing and he opened his eyes.

"What the..." He was sitting in an office. How had he gotten here? Was this some prank DX was playing on him? If it was he wasn't amused. He leaned back in his chair and went to push his hair back but was shocked to realize that he had no hair to push back. Had DX cut off his hair? He loved his hair! He was going to kill them. Just then he looked down that he was wearing a suit. He never wore a suit. What was going on here! Just then the door opened.

"Here's your food, Shane." A pretty young woman came in carrying some Chinese food. Hunter recognized her as Maggie, Shane's personal assistant.

"Wait a minute what did you just call me?" How could she confuse him with Shane? They didn't exactly look alike. Was she in on the prank too?

Maggie gave him an odd look. Was he going to insist she call him Mr. McMahon now? "Shane. Your name."

"Maggie, do you have a mirror?"

"Yes," she said slowly. "In my purse. Why?"

"Let me see it."

She looked at him strangely but went and got it for him anyway. When she brought it back he grabbed it out of her hand. He looked in it. Sure enough it was Shane's face staring back at him.

"Unbelievable."

"Are you alright Shane?" She knew he had had a little to drink, and her eyes immediately looked over at the decanters on the wet-bar but they were still mostly full.

Hunter didn't answer. He was too lost in thought of being in the body of Shane. Did this mean he was the boss now? A slow smile crept across his face. Oh the possibilities.

"Maybe you should go home and get some sleep," Maggie said. He was acting too strangely. Maybe that last DX prank had been too much and he had snapped somehow. Or maybe all the late nights of work were finally catching up to him.

"No. I'm fine. I'm Shane McMahon," he grinned like an idiot.

"Yes, you are."

"Yes, I am." Hunter put his feet up on the desk, leaned back in his custom leather chair and smiled. He wasn't sure how he got there, but was sure of one thing: he was going to enjoy this while it lasted.

~Part 3~

"Hunter are you alright?" Stephanie asked softly.

"Yeah, I just had a nightmare and I'm a little sick," he quickly lied. "I'll probably be in here for awhile so just go ahead and go to sleep without me." Please, thought Shane. The last thing he wanted to do was spend the rest of the night dodging his sister's romantic advances. There was not enough therapy in the world to cure that one.

"Alright if your sure," she said hesitantly.

"I am," he said quickly. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight." Shane listened as he heard her footsteps fade away. He sat down on the cold tile of the bathroom floor and decided to stay put till she fell asleep. It was the safe thing to do. Hopefully he'd be able to figure out what was going on by morning.

`````````````````````````````
Hunter sat in Shane's hotel room looking around. Everything he found had something to do with business. Was this the most boring guy in the universe or what?
"What does this guy do for fun?" he wondered out loud.
Just then he found Shane's stash of credit cards. A big smile came across his face. This was gonna be a lot more fun then he had originally thought.
~Part 4~
Morning came and Shane tried to sneak out of the bathroom into the bedroom to get dressed. When he had first woken up he had thought the previous night had been a dream but when he looked in the mirror and saw Triple H's face staring back at him he knew it wasn't a dream, it was a nightmare, his worst possible nightmare.
He quietly got dressed and tried to sneak out before Stephanie woke up. He had to find Hunter and fast. He was almost to the door when he bumped into the table. Unfortunately for him it was enough noise to wake his sister up.
"Where are you going," she asked sleepily, rubbing her eyes.
Shane had to think fast. Where would Hunter go? To a strip club? Somehow he didn't think that excuse would fly with Stephanie. "Umm, to the gym. Yeah, the gym, that's it."
"So you're feeling better?" she said, stretching a little.
"Yep," he said, reaching for the doorknob in attempt to get out of there as fast as possible. But he wasn't quite fast enough.
Stephanie threw back the sheet, "Well then come back to bed and I'll give you a real workout."
Shane quickly closed his eyes, but the image of his sister was seared into his retinas. "Stephanie, put some clothes on for pity's sake!"
Stephanie pulled the covers back up in shock. "What is wrong with you?" she asked, hurt.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Shane said, shaking his head
"Don't you find me attractive anymore?" She was on the verge of tears.
'Great,' Shane thought to himself. 'Like I really wanna start this conversation.' There was no winning when a woman asked that question. It was like asking 'Do I look fat in this?' or 'Do you think she's prettier than me?' Shane tried to come up with a suitable answer quickly, but there wasn't a suitable answer that existed. He just shook his head. His sister really needed to get a hobby.
"Steph, I just don't want our whole relationship to be based on sex. I respect you too much."
That seemed to do the trick as a smile came to her face. "That is the sweetest thing. No wonder I love you so much."
"Hey if you're happy, I'm happy." He quickly turned to leave, but again he wasn't quite fast enough.
"Hunter? Where's my kiss goodbye?" she called after him.
Shane froze. Now what? Then it came to him. He turned around smiled and blew her a kiss from the door.
"Bye" He shut the door quickly and breathed a sigh of relief. Could this get any worse?
"Hey, Hunter!"
Shane turned to see DX coming towards him. Well that answered that question.
`````````````````````````

Maggie stepped off the elevator and headed towards Shane's room. He hadn't been in all morning and had already missed two meetings. She had tried calling him on his cell phone but he wasn't answering. It wasn't like him to miss out on business. She knew he had to be deathly sick or hurt for that to happen.

To her surprise as she approached the door she heard loud music coming from behind it. It sounded like something her kid brother and his college roommates always insisted on playing at full blast. She knocked on the door, but there was no answer. She knocked again, as loud as she possibly could.

"What!?" Shane yelled, opening the door.

Maggie looked at Shane in shock. This wasn't Shane McMahon, mister strictly business and Armani suits. The man in front of her was dressed in jeans shorts and a tank. Over his shoulders she could see boxes strewn across the room. The room was crowded with exercise equipment, magazines, liquor, food and music. This whole time she'd been worried to death about Shane being sick or hurt and he'd been out shopping? He had some explaining to do.

She gestured for him to turn the music down. He headed over to the stereo, turning it down a few notches, much to the relief of her ears and his neighbors. She shut the door behind her as she came in.

Maggie looked around at the pigpen of a hotel suite. "So, it looks like you had fun this morning."

Hunter nodded at her and smiled. "Yeah, I had all these credit cards laying around thought what the hell."

She viewed his array of purchases. "Think you forgot a couple things though."

Hunter looked around trying to figure out what he could have possible missed. He had purchased everything his heart could possibly desire, and he hadn't come close to maxing out any of his cards. "Like what?"

She shrugged her shoulders, "Oh I don't know, like, work for starters. You had two meetings that you missed this morning."

Hunter grinned sheepishly. "Bummer, sorry."

Maggie was really beginning to think Shane lost his mind. He must have snapped, that was the only explanation. If she didn't know any better she could have sworn he was someone else, but no, that wasn't possible."So is that what your gonna tell your father when he asks why you messed up two major accounts?"

Hunter shrugged. What did he care if Boy Wonder got in trouble with daddy? "Maggie take the rest of the day off. You deserve it"

She watched as Shane winked at her and began doing pushups. Maggie tried to say something but got a little distracted watching him doing the pushups. She snapped back to her senses.

"Well you are obviously having some kind of nervous breakdown or mental episode. I'll leave you to it and go cover for you as always," she sighed. "But I'm warning you, I'm not going to be the one to deal with your father. "She turned on her heel and walked out.

Hunter laughed at that idea. Like he was afraid of facing Vince? Vince worshipped Shane, he was the heir apparent and couldn't do anything wrong in daddy's eyes. Hunter would have no problem with him. He did another 100 push-ups before getting up and picking up the phone. "Hello, room service? More caviar. I'm working up an appetite. Yes put it on my tab."

~Part 5~

Shane tried to sneak away. Maybe if he pretended not to hear them than DX would leave him alone. Unfortunately there was no chance of that. They quickly caught up with him at the elevator.

"Hunter, where are you going?" X-Pac asked.

"Yeah didn't you hear us calling you?" Road Dogg added. When Hunter hadn't met them that morning they decided to come to the hotel and meet him.

Shane wished he hadn't heard them. "No I didn't. Glad you caught up with me." Yeah right, he thought wondering how he was going to ditch them. Spending the day with DX was not his idea of fun. Besides, he had work to do.

"Well let's get over to Titan then and raise a little hell!" Billy suggested.

Raising hell at Titan was the last thing he needed DX to be doing now. He had meetings to attend, or rather Shane had meetings to attend. But he was Shane, wasn't he?

"Hey what about the library?" Shane suggested, before he realized what he had actually said.

They looked at him like he was out of his mind. Why would they want to raise hell at the library?

Road Dogg started smiling, "Nah that ain't fair. You know X-Pac can't read."

"I can too!" X-Pac protested.

"Dr. Seuss don't count," Road Dogg pointed out.

"Oh."

Billy had had enough of this. "Come on, let's go." He dragged Shane with him as they head down to the lobby.

Not that there had been much doubt before, but Shane was sure of it now, they were all morons.

```````````````````````````````````
Hunter walked into Shane's office and had to stop himself from knocking on the door. It was his office now. He had decided to make the most of his power by checking out scheduled matches. Maybe he could elevate DX somewhat, give them some title shots and give the New Age Outlaws cushy matches to guarantee that they kept their belts.
Maggie was not happy to see him. "Why did you come in dressed like that?"
What was wrong with the way he was dressed? It hadn't occurred to Hunter that a suit would be more appropriate for the office. "Relax Maggie. I'm gonna do some paperwork, you should be happy." The woman was all business, just like Shane. No wonder she'd been his personal assistant for so long.
"I cancelled all your meetings today. I told them you were sick." Considering the way he'd been acting lately, it didn't seem all that far from the truth.
"Thanks doll," he winked at her before walking into the office and shutting the door.
Maggie looked at the closed door and just shook her head. There had to be a logical explanation for all this. Shane in shorts and that shirt? Not that she minded the way he looked in them; the man wore entirely too much clothing in her opinion. But still, she never thought he'd be caught dead in that outfit.
``````````````````````````````

"Hey they came today," Billy grinned as he held up a box.

"What is it?" Shane asked, pretty sure he didn't really want to know.

"X-ray glasses," Billy said, opening the box.

"Yeah sure." Somebody has been reading entirely too many comic books, Shane thought.

"Just try em."

X-Pac and Road Dogg each grabbed a pair and Shane followed suit, just so he wouldn't stand out. X-ray glasses? Could it possibly get any more juvenile than that? Shane was soon about to find out that it could.

"Now what?" he asked, putting the glasses on.

"Now we go find some woman," Billy grinned.

They started walking and stopped by the public restrooms. Whenever a girl went in or out they would make wolf whistles and cat calls at her. Sure it was probably sexual harassment, but hey, they were DX.

He hated to admit it, but Shane felt himself really getting into this. "This is fun."

"Did you have any doubt?" X-Pac elbowed him.

Just then Prince Albert walked out of the men's room. The forgot to take their glasses off in time. Making gagging noises, they all rushed into the bathrooms to throw up.

``````````````````````````
Hunter was going over the scripts with a red pen, marking all the changes he was planning to make. By the time he was finished it looked like he had bled all over the pages. He was so intent on his work that he didn't hear Bibi come in.
"Your secretary wasn't at her desk so I just came in. Is that ok?" she asked in a breathy voice.
Hunter smiled at her. He had forgotten that he was now in control of the Women's Division. Definite possibilities. "Sure, what do you need?"
"The Women's Title for starters."
"And why should I give you that?" he asked, leaning back in his chair.
"It's not about what you can give me, it's about what I can give you," she leaned over his desk, giving him quite the eye-full. She crawled across the desk towards him, and began running her fingers through his dark curly hair. "If I had the belt, I would be very, very grateful," she began nibbling on his ear to show him just how much.
"How grateful?" he asked, trying not to let on that she was getting to him. If he wasn't a married man -- but he wasn't, he was Shane.
Bibi sat in his lap and whispered something in his ear.
Hunter's face flushed, turning bright red and he stood up immediately, dumping Bibi onto the floor unceremoniously. "Excuse me a minute, I'll be right back!"
He rushed out to the men's room, needing some cold water because it suddenly felt very hot in there. He threw open the door, and came face to face with himself.
~Part 6~
Upon coming face to face with himself, Shane stopped cold. He looked at himself, at Hunter, he corrected himself. What was with the hair and those horrible clothes. No Shane was not the least bit happy with how Hunter had dressed him. "What have you done to me?" Shane asked in horror.
Hunter just smirked his familiar smirk. Shane noted how odd it was to see his face doing Hunter's mannerisms. Before Shane could say anything else the rest of DX emerged from the bathroom stalls, the site of Prince Al without his clothes finally out of their minds.
"What's going on?" Road Dogg asked.
Hunter looked at Shane, daring him to try anything. Shane quickly shifted into Hunter mode. "Nothing, let's go." He didn't want DX involved in this, though the thought of dishing out Hunter a taste of his own medicine did appeal to him.
"Hey Wonder Boy, did you have fun last night?" Billy Gunn asked.
Hunter started laughing. "Oh guys, that was hysterical, the look on your face --" He stopped laughing, realizing that they were referring to him. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to react.
DX continued to ridicule him until Shane finally told them to quiet down. "What are you guys trying to do, get Stephanie ticked at me again? I had to sleep alone last night." Thank goodness for door locks. "Leave him alone."
That seemed to be enough to quiet them down. They started to leave and Shane followed after them. He turned to face himself one last time. "I need to talk to you later," he said to Hunter, then turned and followed DX down the hallway.
They started heading towards the elevator and ran right into Stephanie. Great, Shane thought, I was hoping to avoid her. It wasn't that he didn't like his sister, they were actually pretty close, but there was no way in heaven that he was going to pretend to be her happy husband.
"Hey Hunter." She went to kiss him but he turned his head. "What's wrong?"
"You know I hate it when you do that in front of the guys, they might get jealous," Shane exclaimed.
Stephanie gave him a weird look but let it slide. "Anyway, I just came down to tell you we're having a family dinner tonight at my parents so do me two favors."
"Name them."
"For starters, dress nice. And the second favor is please, please don't pick a fight with anyone tonight. Okay?"
Shane nodded. If there were any fights tonight, Hunter would be the one to blame. "I promise."
"What, no argument?" She put her hand on his forehead, "Are you sick Hunter?"
He pushed her hand away, "Of course not, I'm fine. Why?"
"No reason, it's just that you always argue about going to my parents' house." Argue was put it mildly. Pitch a temper tantrum was more like it. Vince and Shane had always made it more than clear how they felt about the marriage and Hunter wasn't about to go where he wasn't wanted. This wasn't the reaction she had expected. She had expected to have to beg, plead, and possibly bribe him to get him to come.
Shane just smiled good-naturedly. "I'm in a good mood today. Um, well we have to go I'll be there later," he said quickly, glad for the first time that DX was there, they worked great as an excuse to get him out of there.
Stephanie shook her head as she watched him walk away. "I hope your still in a good mood after tonight," she said with a sigh.
``````````````````````

Hunter made his way back to Shane's office, no his office he corrected himself. Maggie was seated at her desk and a look that could stop a clock. She was clearly not happy. Hunter ignored her and reached for his doorknob.

"Bibi left, she said to tell you she'd see you later," Maggie called out, startling him.

Hunter turned around to face her. "Okay. Thanks. Anything else?"

"Nope," said Maggie, shaking her head. But there was an evil glint in her eye.

Hunter was seriously thinking about firing her. He turned once again to open the door.

Just as he was about to open it Maggie called out, once again making him jump. "Have fun!"

"With what?" he said as he opened the door.

"Shane get in here now!" Vince yelled from inside Shane's office.

Hunter looked back at Maggie, a broad smile of satisfaction on her face. "With your father." She smiled and at him and waved goodbye. "It was nice knowing you."

Hunter reluctantly walked into his office. He was not looking forward to this.
