Computer Processing
Central Processing Unit (CPU)--the hardware device that stores data and programs, executes program instructions, and performs arithmetic and logic operations
Random Access Memory (RAM)--memory that loses the data or instructions that it stores when the power is turned off. The processor can jump randomly among locations as data is stored or retrieved.
Read-only Memory (ROM)--memory that does not lose its data or instructions when the power is turned off. Used to store instructions for “booting” the computer.
