• Sequential Access--a device that records and reads back data only in a one-after-the-other sequence (ex. Cassette or Video Tapes)

• Random/Direct Access--a device that can go directly to the location without having to read through all the data preceding it (ex. CD Player)

  • Magnetic Disks
    • Floppy disk
    • Hard disk
  • Optical Storage
    • CD-ROM (Compact Disk/Read-Only Medium)
    • WORM disk (Write Once/Read Many times)
