Lethargically, he picks up a yellow pill from the table. He holds it up to his face and studies it, considering. Her breath catches in her throat. Surely he isn’t…he can’t… But he slowly reaches for the glass of water and raises it to his lips...

Suddenly, as if a high-pitched scream had resounded in the room, the glass shatters, spraying him with tiny diamonds of glass and water.

He jumps and the cobwebs fall from his eyes. What had he been thinking? What would Lina have said? God, she would have been so disappointed.

Casting one last look at the pills on the table, he sweeps them off in one violent gesture. It had been madness. He won’t let it happen again.

Seeing the life and determination return to his eyes, she smiles faintly. He would make it after all.

Approaching him one last time, she kisses him softly on the forehead and fells him shiver before floating away, leaving him to his future.
