Gear You will Absolutely need!

Ok lets gear up. First off we'll cover guns for each type of hunting . Every set up is a little bit different and each one has a particular gun that best suits your hunt. These are some general proven calibers that we think will work well for you in a variety of set ups.Prefered calibers will be listed below under the appropriate game with bullet reccomondations also.
Next we will move onto clothing items . South Carolina has some great weather and some real lousy weather . It is not unusual to be sweating bullets during January or shivering in September . A wide variety of layered clothing is best.Bug tamers are highly reccomended.
Footwear : Waterproof!!! Cant stress this enough , we are in South Carolina folks and it is lowland. While you might think your feet will be real dry high up in the air perched in a stand , what happens when you have to cross a slough to get to your stand? Sitting on stand in wet feet isnt my idea of fun. Snakes are present on all of our hunting lands for the better part of our seasons , I and David both use Rocky Outback snakeboots. We have been very impressed with not only the mental security they bring but the waterproof 16 " height. They work wonders for our feet.
Camo : whatever works for you ! Head nets and gloves are a must ,one for camo coverage and two for bug control. I personally hunt with Mossy Oak Break-up, Dave uses Advantage patterns and we both have great success. Many of our stands are blind types where your visual exposure to wildlife is minimal.None the less you want a good camo that has a variety of applications.
general items : binoculars , calls ,scents ect , camera , drivers liscense (for obtaining your hunting liscense) , seat pads , coolers for game transport ,bug spray (unscented for big game hunting), knife , rope , flashlight with xtra batteries ,some form of Blaze Orange. This isnt required by law but we ask that you display some coming and going from the woods. We like to know where you are and hunt alot of low light conditions.
These are just some of the basics , we prefer you come overprepared than under prepared ! Had one guy show up with a dozen turkey decoys last year , I thought we might be going goose hunting.Specifics will be listed below in the appropriate catagory.

Spring Turkey
Gun: 12 gauge 3 " at least . Shells :#4 -#6 are legal in South Carolina . Camo coverage is advised ! We will pattern your gun prior to your hunt so bring a variety of shells to see what is going to work best.

Whitetail Hunts
Rifles : scoped , 243 caliber or larger . I took deer from five feet to three hundred yards last year . Both myself and David shoot a 30-06 with 155 grain ballistic tips or 180 grain core lockt bullets. This seems to cover every situation well. By all means bring you custom calibers but dont forget your ammo!

Russian Boar Hunts
Guns : Look these guys are tough and I dont like tracking wounded 350 lb Boars who have it out for me , bring a 30 caliber or larger with a high density retaining bullet .These animals will show you the cracks in your bullet!Core Lockts perform well but ballistic tips seem to fade here.Of course you can take em with other calibers but trust me a 243 isnt going to bring a smile to our faces!
