St. Charles Borromeo . . . SCA Patron Saint

Charles Borromeo was one of the active leaders in the Catholic Reformation.  He was born on October 2, 1538 in Arona, Italy.  Son of Gilbert Borromeo and Margarette de Medici the sister of Pope Pius IV.  Charles studied at Milan and Pavia and became Papal Secretary of Staes at twenty one.  He was an administer of the Papal States and held numerous high political and Diplomatic post as he continued in the Papal service.   He was ordained in 1563 and also made a bishop.  His most significant achievement was his work in reopening of the council of trent in 1562.

He also founded a society for the religious education of children, established a literacy Academy at the Vatican helped to reform Church music, and was a Patron of the composer Palestrina  He traveled widely in Italy and Switzerland in an attempt to lessen the effects of teh protestant Reformation, to combat the rise of new heresies, and to revitalize Catholicism in weakend areas.  He was personally a simpleman, dedicated to ascenticism, and distributed his great wealth with lavish hand on countless charities.  He died in Milan on 1854 and was canonized on 1610 by Pope Paul  VI, his feast day is November 4.

Saint Charles Academy in Focus

St.Charles Academy was founded by Msgr. Francisco Cruces and Msgr. Ulpiano Catungal, then parish assistant parish priest in San Carlos City.   It was the answer to the petition of the parishioners in their desire for a catholic school exit in the City.

The school was established on September 29,1968 and incorporated on October 16, 1969.  The instittution is owned by the Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese.  The congregation of Franciscan Sister of The Immaculate Concepcion (CFIC) helped in the adminstration of the school from 1970 to May 1987; afterwhich, the school was turned over to the St. Dominic Team Ministry starting school year 1987-1988.

The Academy in it's twenty years of existence   (1968-1988) only offered secondary education.  It was only until school year 1989-1990.  When started offering noted to be one of the excellent schools in the City, both in the Elementary and Secondary levels of education.

Saint Charles Academy, which is a member of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) and teh Association of Private Schools and Universities (APSCU) provides Catholic Education so as the produce morality upright and well rounded individuals.  It aims to develop students potentialities in all aspects.  It is evident  that the school has made a name in the different   divisions and regional competitions thus providing an opportunity to prove it's worth in the National level.

The school is composed of various academic and non-academic organizations which are consistently functional.  The organizations, through their joint efforts, contribute to the optimum growth of the students and the school as well as through their projects purposeful activities.  The most notable is the outreach program through catechism.

Indeed, Saint Charles Academy in its 31st year of existence can be regarded as a well established institution, a rock and a foundation of Catholic Education for the people of San Carlos City and nearby towns like Basista, Urbiztondo, Malasiqui and Bayambang.  This will not be made true without  the pioneers and its components and of course, the Supreme Being who makes everything possible.
