The Plainsmen finished third to Colonie and Shaker at the Suburban Council Championships on May 16th at Guilderland. Despite the third place finish, there were some great individual performances and truly memorable moments.

In the 110 hurdles, Andre Vives ran a team best 15.5 to capture the victory. Tim Johnston was second with a 15.9. In the 400, Shen had three scorers as Sam Silver finished third with a 52.3. Erik Ela finished 4th and Sean O'Brien was 6th.

Darrell Andruski had an amazing finish in the 1600 as he ran down Lou DiNuzzo of Shaker to run a team best 4:23.9. In the 400 hurdles, Wagner Samaniego took advantage of a fall by Colonie's Brett Thompson to take second place with a 58.7.

The 4x800 relay of Cooper, Slater, Horan, and Hansen finished 2nd to Shaker, as they ran a 8:17.2. In the 4x400, Colonie's team of Brett Thompson, Bryan Susser, Jim Tremblay, and Mike Gathen ran a Section II best 3:24.8.

In the high jump, John McClure jumped 6-0 to take second place. Chris Cooper took second in the pole vault with a 13-6 and Pat Harrison was 3rd with 13-0. Colonie was powered by their throwers as they went 1-2-3 in the discus and 1-2 in the shot put.

Sophomore Sean Ranagan showed his versatility as he won the pentathlon with 3,017 points.

The highlight of the meet was the 3000 steeplechase which brought to an end the career of senior Dave Bresler. Bresler, who has been running track for four years ran in his first ever varsity competition. In an appropriate conclusion to his Bresleresque career, Dave did a face plant into the water pit on his final lap. With the crowd cheering in appreciation, a soaking wet Bresler raised his arms in triumph. By the way, he ran 12:14, missing the $1,500 reward by 1:15. Dave hurt his knee in the fall and was unable to compete in the JV Championships. He chose to go out on top.

I think I speak for everyone when I say-Thanks for the memories Dave

Other Shen runners in the race included Mark Gaedje (10:32) and Jeremy Relyea (10:51).
