Tenerife is one of the biggest of the seven Canary
Islands and it has many unusual and unique features. The island is in fact
a huge dormant volcano that creates a very differing climate on different
parts of the island. This means you can go swimming in the day and then
have a snowball fight on MT. Teide. The island has many places for different people. Las
Americas is the upbeat part of the island with pubs, clubs and other
drinking establishments. This is a very “touristy” place and not
suitable for older couples or those wanting peace and quiet. During the
day you can also experience the Octopus Water Park or the Dolphin Park. Or
if you are feeling a little more adventurous then you can try paragliding
or riding a jet-ski. Los Cristianos is the second largest holiday resort
on the island behind Las Americas. It is a much quieter calmer place than
Las Americas. The town centre is pedestrianised
which makes shopping easier. If you fancy seeing more of the island there
are normally boats travelling from the harbour willing to take you
anywhere. There has recently been built a golf course which is situated
between Los Cristianos and Las Americas. There is also a much larger
variety of restaurants in Los Cristianos offering cuisine from all over
the world. These are the two main tourist towns on the island obviously there are many other interesting places on the island including Mt Teide and the principal town on the island Santa Cruz, but they are beyond the scope of this page.
