I do most of my fishin in Columbia, SC, in the Congaree river. The Congaree is formed by the confluence of the Broad And Saluda rivers. Catfish are caught year round, and it is not uncommon to break thirty pounds regularly when fishing the right spots. Striper begin their run at the end of March, beginning of April and run strong through August. After that, I catch them bottom fishing for cats and consider it a fluke. Anything under ten pounds in the striper is considered normal. To get the big boys, alot of folks fish behind Riverbanks Zoo, although that is foreign territory to me as of now. A Game Warden told me once "When the dogwoods bloom on Meeting St., the big boys are here." He's right, if you're a local and didn't know this little tidbit, IT'S TRUE! Once those trees bloom, the keepers are in. KEEP IN MIND THE 21 INCH, FIVE FISH PER DAY LIMIT! I HAVE SEEN FOLKS HAULED OFF TO JAIL FOR KEEPING LITTLE ONES! Normally about the same time the striper start up, I start catchin bream.

Just for fun, heres your local weather if you're planning a fishin trip!

Before I go further, let me explain the legend on the maps I created/ripped off. X marks the spot for the fish, and it's kinda like the five star method...the more X's the better luck I have had there. Anywhere there are rocks to fish around, there is an R. I have blocked off the main area encompassed in any "spot" by outlining it in red. Trust me, this is a whole lot more than I had to go off when I started, and as I learn more and get better maps it will be updated.

Now, I'm gonna point you in the right direction, but it's up to you to get out there, watch, learn, talk to the locals, and figure out how to fish these spots. That's half the fun of fishing!

I started out bank fishing in two main spots. The powerhouse and the sandbar at Gervais St.

Once I got the use of a boat, obviously I had to put in somewhere. So I use either the Rosewood Landing or the Cayce Landing.

If you're going at the river from a boat, be really careful and look for rocks and sandbars. More people have tried to run the river the first time at full speed and messed up either their motor or boat itself. DON'T BE STUPID IN A NO STUPID ZONE!

Some of the better boat spots are the drainpipe at the water treatment plant above the 77 bridge. I've caught alot of good size cats there, I think it's something about the detergent in the water. I have also caught a few striper in this spot.

Up from that there is a big sandbar on the right side of the river (left if coming from Rosewood Landing) about 10 feet off shore on the opposite side is a channel that I have caught Striper, Cats, Gar, and Bream in.
