The town of Conneaut, Ohio, has a railroad history dating back to 1852. The first railroad, the Cleveland and Erie began operations through there in August of that year. It was later absorbed by Conrail which is now CSX. It is also the home of The Conneaut Railroad Museum, former New York Central depot, built in 1900, has antique and rare steam era exhibits.
NKP #755 Berkshire
It is a 2-9-4 built by the lima Locomotive Works in Lima Ohio. This wheel arrangement was to improve on the speed and horse power of the 2-8-2 locomotive, which had difficulty keeping up steam over long periods and often experienced wheel slippage. a a 100 square foot firebox was added, therefore required a four wheel trailing truck to support it. The resulting locomotive was designated Class A-1, the first 2-8-4. The first one was tested for the Boston & Albany Railroad by Lima in the early spring of 1925 over a division of the railroad that crossed the Berkshire Hills. It did so well that they quickly became known as "Berkshires".
