In the early 20th century, the John Street yard was in its prime, covering nearly 16 acres with miles of track and containing 43 structures. Built by the Canadian Pacific Railway it was slightly smaller than the Spadina yard of Canadian National Railway. The Toronto Railway Historical Association (TRHA) was aware that the City of Toronto was in possession of significant railway heritage assets including the John Street roundhouse and locomotive No. 6213. and is attempting to get Toronto a Railroad museum of its own.
