CN 1431 now GMD1u, class GR-412b started out as CN 1025 in 1958. It had the usual six-wheel A1A trucks. In 1988 it was rebuilt and renumbered to 1601, retaining its six-wheel A1A trucks. It was
supposed to have been rebuilt to 1431 in 1999, but conversion was put on hold as it was used along with 1063 and 1600 on the Lewvan Subdivision near Regina SK as the last GMD1s with 6-wheel trucks on CN. The Lewvan Subdivision has very light rail and the 6-wheel trucks of the GMD1 have a very light "footprint". It was hauled dead to Winnipeg summer 1999 and finally rebuilt to 1431 in early 2000.
