Extra Credit: 

 

You may earn up to a maximum of an additional 10% of the cumulative point total by completing any combination of the following:

·        An optional term paper on the Theory of Evolution (10%), that requires you to summarize the theory, discuss evidence, evaluate an alternative position from a book, and present your own opinion.

·        A field assignment that you may complete which requires you to visit a zoo (Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, or San Diego) and conduct research on-line.  (5%)

·        A self-guided tour that you may complete which requires you to visit the Cabrillo Marine Museum in San Pedro and post your work on-line on your own web page.  (2.5%)

·        A self-guided tour that you may complete which requires you to visit the Channel Islands National Park in Ventura (1%).

·        Volunteering at the Children’s Hunger Fund food warehouse in Pacoima for a Wednesday or Saturday morning (1%) and writing a three-paragraph, 250-word minimum essay on (1) a description of your activities at CHF, (2) the relation of resource distribution to world hunger and human impact on the environment, and (3) the significance of CHF and your own participation from a global, local, and personal view.  Attach your proof of attendance to your essay.

·        Various lectures and activities (1%), announced throughout the semester, as they become available.  Generally requires proof of attendance (agenda or bulletin) and a two-paragraph, 250-word essay discussing (1) a summary of the activity and (2) the significance or application of the subject to your own personal life.
