Sweat lodges are not
Cherokee.
We have an Asi, used
primarily for medicinal reasons.
The only traditional
use of the Asi for sprituality has been
in connection with
preparations for War,Hunting, and Stick Ball .
However, many do participate
in the sweat lodge, depending on
what other tribal
affiliations they personally have.
The Medicine Wheel
is not Cherokee.
It's colors, red,
yellow, white and black,
are not the colors
used to represent our directions.
Our Ancestors did
not live in tipis.
They lived in caves,
longhouses, and later in log cabins.
Many of us do have
tipis now, because they're easier to haul
on top of a Chevy Suburban
than a log cabin!!
Cherokee Chiefs
do not wear western
style headresses.
Those seen in
on the Reservation are
for show/tourist photos
The White Buffalo
and return of Buffalo Woman
is not a part of Cherokee
Religion.
However, many are
unaware of the existance
of the Buffalo in the
east in early times.
The Cherokee do not
have totems, or shamen,
and
the Kachina and
Kokapelli are not Cherokee.
