Relatives Of Aaliyah's Bodyguard Suing For Wrongful Death - 03.04.02

Less than a week after the families of two victims who died in the plane crash that killed Aaliyah and eight other passengers last year filed lawsuits against Virgin Records (see "Families Of Men Killed In Aaliyah Crash File Lawsuits"), another family is doing the same, according to the Associated Press.

The relatives of Scott Gallin, Aaliyah's bodyguard, are suing the record label and Blackhawk International Airways for wrongful death. The lawsuit, filed by Gallin's ex-wife, Becky, on behalf of their 15-year-old son, charges that Virgin Records and its affiliated music and video production units are liable for Gallin's death because they handled the arrangements for Aaliyah's video shoot in the Bahamas.

One allegation in the lawsuit is that Virgin should have hired a "competent" transportation broker and air charter company. Another is that Blackhawk allowed the pilot to fly the plane even though he was unqualified and he took off with the plane dangerously overloaded.

A spokesperson for Virgin Records could not be reached for comment.
