Originally, GP9s had high short and long hoods to run long hood forward. The CN GP9RMs in service today have been rebuilt from these older GP9s by reducing the nose height to give visibility from the cab. They now usually run short nose forward.

While GP9's are a common sight switching at Aldershot Yard, Burlington, it is not usual to see 4 of them lashed together. Here we see such a consist March 5/05 at 11:40 am.
