Originally, GP9s had high short and long hoods to run long hood forward. The CN GP9RMs in service today have been rebuilt from these older GP9s by reducing the nose height to give visibility from the cab. They now usually run short nose forward.

CN 7025 GP9RM, built 1958 rebuilt from GP9 4261 in 1991 spotted as part of a larger consist including a SD50, SD 40, GP 40 and sister GP9 7039 Feb 20/1:33 pm in Aldershot Yard.
