Originally, GP9s had high short and long hoods to run long hood forward. The CN GP9RMs in service today have been rebuilt from these older GP9s by reducing the nose height to give visibility from the cab. They now usually run short nose forward.

CN 4012 GP9RM, built in 1957, rebuilt from GP9 4482 in 1982 comes in from Hamilton to the Aldershot Yard at 10:15 am February 3/05.
