SC 440  not currently assigned
Previous SC 440's: SC 440: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 158 (current S-14-25) Summerton south 4 miles to Taw Caw.
In 1948, SC 440 was downgraded to S-14-38.

Creation: Appeared as new state routing in 1940. Originally ran from SC 44 (current S-31-7) near Hammetts Crossroads southwest only to the Sumter County Line.
Adjustments: In 1941 or 1942, SC 441 was extended southwest across US 521 and ending at SC 261 near Statesburg.
In 1948, SC 441 was extended in both directions: west two miles to US 76 (replacing a piece of SC 261) and east 1 mile to US 15 (replacing a piece of SC 44)
In 1951 or 1952, SC 441 was rerouted at Pinckney Crossroads to head south to US 76-378 at Shaw AFB. The old route to Statesburg became S-43-28 and some of SC 261.
In 2001 or 2002, SC 441 was extended south to loop around to SC 763 near the Iris Lake Gardens. THis was partially new construction, but also overran parts of S-43-944 and S-43-204.
Improvements: SC 441 was partially paved in pieces in 1948. Fully paved by 1952. No multilane sections
Comment: SC 441 is one of the few routes east of Columbia that I have driven none of...

Previous SC 442's: SC 442: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran as a 2.5 mile loop off US 15 in Summerton.
In 1948 SC 442 was downgraded to S-14-42.

 
 
SC 443  not currently assigned
Previous SC 443's: SC 443: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as a new primary route. Ran from SC 526 (current S-28-12) southeast of Camden east to SC 44 (current S-31-7), a distance of 11 miles.
In 1948, SC 443 was downgraded to S-28-18, S-31-25, and S-31-242.

Previous SC 444's: SC 444: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 39 (current S-30-6) near Ware Shoals east to US 221 Maddens.
The 9 miles of SC 444 were downgraded to S-30-36 in 1948.

Previous SC 445's: SC 445: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new routing. Ran from SC 43 (current US 378) Saluda northeast to SC 194, 3 miles away.

Previous SC 450's: SC 450: Appeared in 1940 as new routing. Ran from SC 45 (current S-8-6) near Pineville to US 52 St. Stephens via Russellville, a total of 6 miles.
SC 450 was downgraded to S-8-18, part of S-8-35, and S-8-276.

Previous SC 451's: SC 451: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from US 52 Bonneau northwest to SC 450 (current S-8-18) Russellville, for a length of 6 miles.
In 1948, SC 451 was downgraded to S-8-35, some of which was still not paved in the late 1980's.

Previous SC 452's: SC 452: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 439 (current S-35-30/44 jct)northeast across SC 28 and ending at SC 433 (current S-35-22) McCormick, for a length of 3 miles.
In 1948, SC 452 was downgraded to S-35-30 and S-35-11.

Adjustments: SC 453 was extended as new routing south to US 178 Harleyville in 1951 or 1952.
Improvements: Fully paved at creation; no multilane sections.
Comment: SC 453 follows the railroad across the Four Holes Swamp, but only loosely parallels it everywhere else.
