US 217  not currently assigned
Previous US 217's: US 217: Appeared in 1927 as an original US highway. Ran from US 17 (current US 76) Pee Dee northeast to Latta and Dillon before heading into North Carolina near Rowland. US 217 continued to Wilson, NC where it ended at the bizarre US 17-1.
US 217 was assigned to the entirety of the original SC 23, which was removed from the route in 1928.
Alas, the victory of solo status was short-lived. In 1932, US 217 was renumbered as US 301.
US 217 is one of just 3 US Routes in South Carolina to have been totally decommissioned (also: 117, 401 #1)
