What the image shows?

NGC 1300, which is a barred spiral galaxy. A barred spiral galaxy is a galaxy in which the arms do not spiral into the center, but give the appearance of being connected in a straight line with the nucleus and stars at either end.

Where it is?

NGC 1300 lies on the banks of the constellation Eridanus, which is completely visible from those latitudes south of 32 degrees N, and portions of the constellation are visible worldwide, from October - December.

How far away it is?

NGC 1300 lies 69 million light-years away (http://hubblesite.org) from Earth.

What makes this image interesting?

Additional galaxies may be viewed through the NGC 1300. Also, what appears to be the beginngin of a black hole can be seen in the center of the galaxy. This is the galaxy and constellation that contains the star known as Achernar.
