Bobby and Barry Bonds

Former major-leaguer, father of San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds, died late Saturday morning. Barry Bonds will be away from the team indefinitely, the Giants announced. Bobby Bonds had been fighting cancer. Bobby was one of the first players to combine power with base stealing speed. He was 57. Bobby Bonds died shortly before 9 a.m. PDT, a Giants spokesman said. Barry Bonds will be away from the team indefinitely.

Not A-OK

Mark Mulder

Oakland Athletics pitcher Mark Mulder has a stress fracture in his right hip, putting the rest of his season in jeopardy. "Mark is not going to be here for awhile," Athletics manager Ken Macha said Friday. Macha and trainer Larry Davis would not speculate on how long the ace left-hander would be sidelined. "I'm not going to even put a number on it," Davis said. Mulder had an MRI exam Thursday, and the team was surprised to see it showed a fracture. The Athletics weren't sure how he hurt himself. Mulder is 15-9 with a 3.13 ERA in 26 starts this season. The A's, who began the day with a one-game lead over Boston in the AL wild-card race, placed Mulder on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of tendinitis in his right hip. The Athletics originally thought he would miss only two starts.
