Jet Set Radio is the sequel to the game the made its debut on the Sega Dreamcast. The series is unique in many ways, including gameplay, graphics, and objectives. Although Jet Set was originally an XBOX launch title, it never was given enough credit, thus being discontinued due to low sales after about a year. Jet Set Radio takes place in yet another futuristic city, and brings back many of the older aspects of the series, including a new psychotic Chief of police. The main goal of the game is very simple – vandalize other gangs graffiti with your own, while pulling off tricks on your in-line skates. Do not be fooled, this is very far from the Tony Hawk series or Aggressive Inline. Jet Set is a cell shaded game, and uses a technique that is very hard to pull off, and uses all the capability of the XBOX. This is a game that many pass over because they do not like the graphics, but they only add to the game itself. The cell-shaded graphics are probably the main reason the game was discontinued and over looked. There are seldom problems with the graphics or game display. I’d give this portion of the game a 9/10. The Gameplay and fun factor of the game is tremendous. It is a highly addicting game and action packed. Although the XBOX’s controller doesn’t really suit the game in my opinion (I’d have to say the trigger buttons on the controller are the reason that Sega chose the XBOX, because they are very helpful when spray painting.), the XBOX controller would do a much better job than the PS2’s. The game is even better with the Microsoft “S” controller. Although the game is somewhat repetitive, in my opinion, it never gets boring. I suggest that any XBOX owner go pick up this game. It can be found for around $10 Used or if you’re lucky, possibly even new for less than that.
