South  Carolina adopted its seal in 1776.  The state seal reminds South Carolina's of their states government papers official  South Carolina's state seal shows a palmetto tree.  The palmetto stands above a dead oak tree.  These trees represent the battle on Sullivan's Island in 1776.  The palmetto stands for the South Carolina fort.  The oak stands for the British ship. .
