    Farmland covers nearly half of Tennessee's land area. The state has about 89,000 farms. Cotton ranks are Tennessee's leading crop. In Tennessee  most of the herds have fewer than 50 cattle's. Milk is Tennessee's second ranking farm product. Hogs are also an important source of income in the state. Hog production is the heaviest in the western half of the state. Tennessee has many poultry and horse farms. The famous Tennessee walking horse breed was developed in middle Tennessee.
