Some past known clocks are improved sundials. They are operated electronically by shifting gears. Such clocks as Big Ben. Big Ben is a very famous clock in London when the bell tolls it can be heard all through out London. Like a sundial these clocks have the same flat faces. Most of them have two hands. The longer one represents the minutes while the shorter one represents the hours. Some clocks have three hands. The longest one is red and represents seconds. All the other hands are black. These clocks use the method sixty seconds in a minute, sixty minutes in an hour, and twenty-four hours in a day. Cuckoo clocks are another kind of these clocks. At an hour a bell will toll or a bird will call the number of times the hour is. Like at twelve it will alarm twelve times or at three it will toll three times.
