~ Student Expresses Shock ~

By Jacob Nosel
At 8:50 a.m. EST Tuesday morning September 11, 2001, America was attacked when terrorists flew a high jacked 767 aircraft into one of New York City's World Trade Center Trade Towers. Moments later, a second high jacked plane crashed into the second twin tower causing great devastation. A third plane was high jacked and went down in Washington DC's Pentagon, going through the outside layer into the second layer of the gigantic building. The whole tragedy continued when a fourth U.S. aircraft went down in rural Pennsylvania.

The crash caused the Twin Towers to tumble to the ground twice at 10:00a.m. and 10:30a.m. By 10:50a.m. the entire crash area was engulfed in smoke and flames. Our entire nation was in shock and dazed by the whole situation as it left thousands dead, injured and many more missing. No one knew what happened, and no one knew what to expect. Among the missing and injured, two hundred and seventy people died on the airplanes on impact. While five thousand four hundred and twenty two people are missing and presumed dead in the World Trade Center attack. Three hundred rescue workers are included in that total. The tragedy in Washington claimed another hundred and eighty unaware office workers. The citizens of the United States looked to the President George W. Bush for the solution, comfort and direction. He visited the crime sites, and thanked the rescue workers for there help. Congress has given President Bush financial backing and support to resolve this issue. When I first heard the news about this attack, I didn't believe it actually happened. I was totally shocked, and I couldn't believe what I was watching on the television in the library.
