~ Quabbin Families Directly Effected ~

By Melissa Morrill
The New York tragedy effected everyone that heard about it, some more than others. For two Quabbin students this tragedy directly affected their lives. Jackson Powers reports that his father, James, 44, works only half a mile away in Manhattan, as an architect. The day of the tragedy, Mr. Powers heard the first plane coming. Then he saw it go crashing into the Trader Center. From there he moved out of harm’s way, continuing to watch the fire that was now going on. Jack tells us that his father is very shook up and very upset by all this. He hasn’t returned to work yet. Peter Bull, the brother of Chris Bull, Quabbin sophomore, was at work at the Blue Barn, an internet design company in a building only one block away from the Trade Centers and instant messaging with his mother as the buildings were attacked. He witnessed the collapse of the second tower from his 30th floor office. As the second building fell, it took Peter 20 minutes to respond to his mother on the instant message, which made her more worried than she already was. She wasn’t sure what to think, but luckily, Peter got out of the city later that day alive, unlike thousands of others who lost their lives. Peter also knew about 30 people who worked in the Trade Centers, but fortunately, they all survived the attack.
