Clyst Valley 0 - 4 Up & Under

A great start to the season, as Up & Under romped to a 4-0 win over Clyst Valley reserves. Apprehension was the mood at the start of this match as U&U were missing a good number of key players, one of which was Goalkeeper Tim Hutchings. Ian Miller deputised solidly. The game got off to a slow start with Clyst Valley not really showing much that could break down the U&U defence. With little in the way of goalmouth action it was no real surprise that the half ended with only a single goal, scored by Captain Rob Southgate as he raced clear to slot the ball neatly under the oncoming Clyst 'keeper.

The second 45 minutes made for a much more competitive game. Clyst Valley produced some good chances, but to the dismay of the home side's management, they just couldn't put the ball in the net. Matters were to get more frustrating for them as Daniel Depledge's strike doubled the U&U lead. The half was almost one way traffic from then on as Clyst Valley came searching. However the U&U defence held resolutely and the high balls into the area were dealt with fairly comfortably by Ian Miller. The odd chance did come the way of U&U when Paul Hutchings's through ball fell to the usually trusted feet of Rob Southgate as he found himself one-on-one with the home side's 'keeper. This time, however, a good save prevented a third goal.

The game took an unfortunate turn in the latter stages as a clash between the visiting 'keeper, Ian Miller, and a Clyst Valley player lead to the home player leaving the field with a broken collar bone. The game then had to be temporarily halted as an Air Ambulance decided to land in the centre circle.

This did not help the home side as two late goals, again from Rob Southgate, helped Up & Under to a somewhat flattering 4-0 victory.
