Up & Under 4-3 Sampford Peverell

UAU were faced with their biggest challenge of the season so far, once again handicapped with absence of striker Paul Hutchings. UAU started poorly and were intimidated by a strong, physical Sampford side, who raced into a 3-0 lead within the first twenty minutes. the first two resulting from defensive hesitancy and poor marking and the third resulting from a superb individual goal from the opposing centre-forward. UAU then decided to start playing and had the best of the remainder of the half, going into the break only 3-2 behind. Stuart Cook slotted home a penalty after Richard Clarke has been fouled in the box on forty-two minutes. Rob Southgate fired in the second from the edge of the box after the ball had only been partially cleared on the stroke of half-time.

Sampford's aggressive tactics did not dampen the UAU frontline as they recieved some rough treatment. the score was 4-2 against the run of play shortly after the break; a speculative pass found its way through the UAU backline and was lifted over goalkeeper Tim Hutchings and in off the underside of the crossbar. A strong challenge by Sampford's Captain allowed the ball to fall to the feet of Dan Depledge who proceeded to beat the goalkeeper at his near post to reduce the arrears to a single goal. Tim Hutchings managed to keep the score down to a minimum as Sampford pushed forward again. First making a great low diving save to his left and secondly pushing the ball onto  the crossbar after a one-on-one encounter.

Although upset at not getting the draw they feel they deserved, UAU should not be too disheartened at losing their stiffest test to date.
