Up & Under 10-1 Honiton Town 2nds |
This game did not produce the kind of challenge as was first thought, although Honiton played some good possession football at times. A re-shuffled UAU side, due to the absence of Dan Edmunds and Richard Clarke and the return of Paul Hutchings, seemed to grab hold of the game from the outset. It took UAU barely three minutes to take the lead Rob Southgate fed Dan Depledge on the left with a superb ball over the top, Depledge then produced an immaculate cross to the feet of Ian Platfoot who coolly slotted home his first of the season. Rob Southgate then fed Stuart Cook, who outpaced the defence the fire in number two. Southgate and Depledge were seemingly toying with the visitors as they produced more inter-play which lead to Paul Hutchins' lob making it 3-0. Scott Forster produced some good midfield play to feed Paul Hutchings, who's hold up play brought in Southgate to fire into the corner of the net from 25 yards. Depledge and Southgate then presented Cook with two more goals to complete his hat-trick with number five and six before the break.
UAU, the game seemingly over, were guilty of complacency and allowed two free headers from an early second half corner which led to Honiton pulling a goal back. Paul Hutchings then made it 7-1 shortly after, then set up Rob Southgate to make it 8-1 with a low finish from the left. Dan Depledges cross wasn't cleared by the defence and allowed Paul Hutchings to complete his hat-trick. Rob Southgate, ten minutes from time, slipped the ball into the feet of the unmarked Paul Hutchings, after good play on the wing by Rob Mitchell, who proceeded to fire in number ten.
A very confidence boosting performance and a 10-1 victory that is a great improvement on the previous week.
