Up & Under 10-0 Bampton |
Plucky Bampton were unable to cope with the attacking onslaught from UAU straight from the outset, who boasted their strongest side so far this season, especially with the return of Paul Hutchings from injury. Bampton enjoyed the occasional foray into the UAU half but failed to force the home goalkeeper into a save. However, it was not until the thirty minute mark that UAU took a hold on the game, up until this point being kept at bay by Bampton's goalkeeper and frustrated by the referee's assistant. Three goals in three minutes broke Bampton's resilience: the first a header into the far corner of the net by Rob Southgate following a pin-point overhead cross from Paul Hutchings; the second was an own goal from a Dan Depledge cross, although Paul Hutchings was trying to claim it as he was the nearest blue shirt to the ball at the time; The third was a goal neatly swept home by Stuart Cook. Rob Southgate even had time to find a goal disallowed following another assist from Paul Hutchings.
Bampton had a strong wind at their backs in the second half, but it was UAU who added their fourth within five minutes of the restart. A deep cross from Dan Depledge was headed home by Rob Southgate. Rich Clarke swept in the fifth goal although the goalkeeper may be upset that it passed him after getting his hand to it. Paul Hutchings again being the provider this time to Stuart Cook to get his second and UAU's sixth. Good work from Stuart Cook down the right flank set up a simple tap in for Rob Southgate to complete his third hat-trick of the season. The largely inactive Ian Miller in the home goal was brought into action after Bampton managed a rare opportunity, only a great save prevented them from getting off the mark. More good work from Stuart Cook enabled Paul Hutchings to grab a deserved goal from a six yard header. Dan Depledge made it nine and then ten in the closing stages. One of which was a fine solo effort ending in a stylish rounding of the goalkeeper.
A fine display by all involved on the UAU side, giving the unfortunate Bampton side a clinic in practically all aspects of football. Crescent 2nd team await UAU in the third round.
