TRUTH that Psalms teaches ACTION that Psalms invites
1. Instructions for growing in piety
Living your life according to the Scriptures and its teachings will make you grow in piety.
133:1
Strive for the unity of the Church.

126:5,6
Sow righteousness through obedient action, to receive a rich harvest.

119:56
Practice obedience to the Word of GOD.

119:9
Organize everything in your life according to the Word of GOD as the key to purity.

111:10; 112:2
Seek GOD and cultivate the fear of the LORD; this leads to wisdom and knowledge and brings blessings.

2. Steps toward holiness
Holiness implies trusting in the LORD and not in the world, which frequently requires that we decide in favor or the former and against the latter. The more we walk alongside the LORD, the further we will get from the world.
115:2-8
Don't put your trust in the things that you have procured for security. That is idolatry.

119:105,130
Seek to be illuminated with the eternal Word of GOD and not with finite human wisdom.

119:36
Put effort into doing GOD's will more than in wealth.

127:1,2
Know that employing your abilities in service to the LORD is useless unless He blesses them with his Spirit.

3. Steps toward a dynamic devotion
GOD desires our hearts, not mere verbal tribute, and wants our feelings to belong to Him exclusively. Developing habits of discipline that lead to this type of life should be a priority for us. This means that we must reexamine our goals in life.
139:23
Ask the LORD each day to examine your heart.

131:2
Grant yourself moments of quietude and tranquility as a regular part of your devotion to GOD.

119:23,24
Meditate regularly upon the Scriptures to go deeply into its teachings.

119:11
Diligently practice the memorization of the Bible to avoid sin.

107:22
Employ songs of praise as a vehicle to express your gratitude to GOD.

4. Keys for a wise life
Only the life lived in light of the Word of GOD is the wise one. For this reason, our study of the Bible should always be accompanied by the petition for wisdom and understanding, so that we can live in a way that pleases Him.
143:10
Ask the LORD to teach you and guide you so that you can comply with his will.

119:128
Make yourself a part of the truth that the Word of GOD proclaims.

119:27
Seek knowledge but, above all, seek understanding.

119:18
Ask GOD daily to open your heart to the Scripture.

5. Key lessons in faith
GOD wants us to seriously examine his Word and to give it all its worth. The truth that it contains will only be revealed to us in this way.
139:7
Console yourself in the truth that GOD is present always and everywhere.

138:8
Don't doubt that if you stay in his presence, the LORD will fulfill his purpose with you.

6. GOD is faithful to his Word
GOD is firm and immutable. His nature is reflected in his Law.
119:71
Even in the midst of afflictions, remember that GOD is faithful to his Word. You must rest in Him.

TRUTH that Psalms teaches ACTION that Psalms invites
Worship the LORD
Worship is directed at GOD; it expresses reverence before his attributes, nature and power; and presents pleasing praise for all that he is and does.
  1. Worship the LORD with all your heart. Avoid worshiping routinely or indifferently, or maintaining a passive attitude during worship. Give your entire heart to the worship.
  2. Sing with the spirit and with the mind. Worship through word, gestures, dance, kneeling, applauding and using musical instruments.
Praise the LORD
Praising the LORD means speaking to GOD with enthusiasm and ardor before others or before Him for all that he has done. "Praise the LORD" (in Hebrew, Aleluya!) is equivalent to a mandate to exalt GOD's virtues and Him because of his wonders. A gathering of praise is a celebration of the power and purpose of GOD.
  1. Trust in the LORD and not in yourself.
  2. Trust in the LORD and not in riches.
  3. Trust in the LORD and not in your strengths or the military power of your land.
  4. Trust in the LORD and not in political power or connections.
  5. Trust in the LORD and not in the things that you have built up.
Thanksgiving
The psalmists call us to express ourselves constantly with our heartfelt gratitude to GOD for all the benefits and gifts that he has given human beings.
  1. Give thanks to GOD, above all, for what He is.
  2. Give thanks to GOD for all that he has given you.
  3. Give thanks to GOD for his goodness and mercy.
  4. Give thanks to GOD for his protection.
  5. Give thanks to GOD for his guidance.
  6. Give thanks to GOD for his wonders.
  7. Give thanks to GOD because his purposes will prevail.
Proclaim
As one of their principal themes, the psalmists invite GOD's people to openly proclaim his goodness, love and mercy toward all nations.
  1. Proclaim the love, mercy and forgiveness of GOD to all Israel.
  2. Proclaim the truth and righteousness of GOD to all nations.
  3. Proclaim his righteousness.
  4. Proclaim his wonders.
  5. Proclaim all the things that GOD has done.
  6. Proclaim his salvation, day after day!
Rest in GOD's protection
The psalmists encourage people to return to GOD and rest in Him more than in themselves and their own strengths in times of difficulty.
  1. Rest in GOD when any enemy threatens you.
  2. Rest in GOD always when you find yourself in difficulty.
  3. Rest in GOD in times of natural calamities.
  4. Rest in GOD in times of political crisis.
  5. Rest in GOD when you are confronted with illness or physical weaknesses.
