TRUTH that Nehemiah teaches |
ACTION that Nehemiah invites |
1. Instructions for growing in piety
Walking in the L ORD's ways means making G OD's priorities our own, recognizing that they are sometimes different than those that we have devised. G OD realizes all things through his Word. Therefore, the Scriptures are a guide to organizing our lives in accordance with divine will. Understanding and obeying them brings joy. They also teach us to discover the hand of G OD in each one of our triumphs. |
1:4-11
Make the wellbeing of G OD's people more important than your own. Understand that you should also confess the collective sins committed by G OD's people.

Set aside time for the public reading of Scripture as a source of wisdom and counsel.

Cultivate and promote the joy of the LORD among GOD's people as a powerful spring of spiritual strength.

True wisdom consists of recognizing the G OD is the source of all spiritual progress. It also makes us aware that such progress won't make a way without human opposition, but will arouse it. Therefore, we should act with discernment. The wise person will discover the true origin of many verbal attacks as an assault instigated by our spiritual adversary. |
1:11
Understand and believe that success and benevolence among human beings comes from G OD.
2:12-16

Permit the public confession of collective sins if it is necessary.
9:17
Teach and believe that GOD is merciful and forgives the sins of which we repent. |
6. Lessons for leaders
Leaders have to make sure of the wellbeing of the church. They must lead in such a way that each one carries upon his shoulders a proportional part of the work and that no one puts his interests above that of the rest.
