The Shining (1980)

The Shining (1980)

"Come out, come out, where ever you are." -Jack Torrance

This movie is seriously scary. And I mean scary, scary. The Shining is based on Stephen King's book, and is about a family (Jack, Wendy, and their son Danny) who go to be caretakers at the Overlook Hotel during the winter season while it's closed.

Everything begins to change, and Jack finds out that one of the previous caretakers took an axe, slaughtered his wife, and his two twin girls, slicing them into tiny pieces. Wendy begins to notice strange behavior in Jack, and meanwhile Danny realizes he has the ability the "shine", or to read minds without speaking/experience visions.

Jack's behavior begins to get very violent, and Wendy has no way to leave because the lodge is closed in by a snowstorm. Meanwhile, Danny is seeing two little twin girls around the hotel, begging him to "play with them". Pretty scary huh? Then Wendy finds pages and pages and pages saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.". This was truly frightening, becuase all the time you thought he was working on his book, he was typing the same phrase over and over, and you realize this guy has been going crazy for some time now.

I will say no more, but seriously, if you haven't seen this movie, see it. It has an excellent story, truly frightening moments (the man with the guy in the bear suit was freaky and bizzarre) and those twin girls are freaky! Another cool thing is that I live about a half an hour away from Mt. Hood in Oregon, and they shot the exteriors at the Timberline Lodge. Anyways, this is a true horror movie.
