Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994)
aka "The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre"

"It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end." -W.E.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (or previously titled "The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre") is an ok movie in my opinion. This movie starts off with two young couples who are driving home from the prom after one of the girls catches her boyfriend cheating on her. We have Barry, the jock asshole ; Heather, the ditsy popular girl ; Jenny, the studious nerd ; and Sean, the nice guy.

The kids take a detour off the main highway and end up crashing into another vehicle in the woods. 3 of the kids goes for help and finds an insurance office run by Darla, a seemingly nice woman. From there on, the gang heads back to the scene of the crash, get split up, and ultimately end up at an old farmhouse, where Leatherface and his crazy family are waiting.

I won't go any further than that, but I have to say I didn't think it was that bad. It is pretty cheesy and some of the lines are awful, but I think it's an all around fun movie. We see a very early Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey here. There are definitely plot holes in the story, like who exactly was Rothman?, and how did Heather mysteriously end up in the middle of the road?. These questions and many more are left unanswered, but if you don't take this movie too seriously you should enjoy it. I do at least. I'd say this is pretty much a drive-in cheesy horror type movie. Take note that the film was originally released under "The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre", shelved for 3 years, and then re-edited and released as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation".
