Information on Crescent Isle Medical Center

Crescent Isle Medical Center (CIMC) sits on the Caribbean Sea side of Twin Harbors and overlooks the harbor and the Caribbean itself. It is a huge brick building with a Romanesque architecture touch to it to make it look more than just a hospital that has various wings and various heights that house all of the different services. Huge palm trees surround the well-kept grounds that are always filled with various kinds of flowers and tropical plants. There is one area that has an opening for a small inner garden in the middle of a large square. Above the garden are two walkways connecting the square so doctors or patients don't have to walk all the way around. In the middle of the garden is a gorgeous fountain with a rising phoenix in the middle of water and fire. Benches circle the elegantly laid bricks around the fountain and many doctors and patients have said their minds felt clearer and their worries disappeared while sitting there.

Crescent Isle Medical Center is a nonprofit, private corporation governed by volunteer trustees from the communities we serve. CIMC serves as a community hospital for the people of Crescent Isle and as the premier tertiary care center for the Caribbean Islands.

The hospital has 606 licensed beds, and provides comprehensive inpatient services in all medical specialties. Centers of excellence are being developed in heart care, children’s services, prenatal/postnatal care, and other areas, building from existing excellence in multi-disciplinary services.

CIMC has a large and growing outpatient component, providing day surgery, cardiac catheterization, laboratory services, rehabilitation services, and some three dozen outpatient clinics. There are also preventive and consultation services, including the CIMC Diabetes Center, the AIDS Consultation Service, and the Center for Lipids and Cardiovascular Health.

        Healthcare Services:

Crescent Isle Medical Center is a unique resource. We're the only major community hospital in the Caribbean Sea, thanks to our benefactor and major contributor Aurelius Inc., we also have services and specialties unavailable elsewhere in the Caribbean Sea. These specialties and services equal or sometimes are better than the care on the mainland. Crescent Isle Medical Center offers:

The largest open-heart surgery program in the Caribbean. Experience counts in open-heart surgery, and not even the largest Florida hospital does more than Crescent Isle Medical Center. Larger programs have better results, and that's what counts when your heart is concerned.

The only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the Caribbean. The sophisticated nursing unit, along with our neonatal transport program and a strong prenatal medicine team, has helped give parts of the Caribbean an astoundingly low neonatal mortality rate. Unfortunately, not all pregnant mothers can find ways to come to the medical center.

The only children's hospital in the Caribbean. The Phoenix Pediatrics Hospital at Crescent Isle Medical Center is dedicated to the unique needs of children, and within its wide range of specialty care is much that is unavailable elsewhere in the Caribbean.

The most comprehensive trauma center in the Caribbean. Crescent Isle Medical Center is the only trauma centers in the Caribbean, and the only one that is able to apply for Level I designation by the American College of Surgeons, since we are in a relationship with the Florida hospitals. Our unique capabilities and board certified specialists set us apart, and make us a unique resource.

The leading choice for the miracle of birth. We are delivering Crescent Isle’s and the Caribbean’s future, one baby at a time. Sometimes we even get a surprise delivery from an expecting mother who came to the isles for a vacation. From the most uncomplicated to the most delicate births, we welcomed all the newcomers to our small isle community and the rest of the Caribbean islands, over 2000 babies in all.
