        Phoenix Pediatrics Hospital (PPH):

        Provides and sponsors comprehensive, family-centered health care for the children of Crescent Isle and the Caribbean Islands, even the children who visit the islands from far-away places. Key activities of PPH include: the collaborative deliver of integrated health care services to children, the promotion of children's health, the education of care-givers in the principles and practices of health care for children, the treatment of complex medical and surgical diseases in a tertiary care facility.

        Now breast care is available with you in mind: your concerns, your time, your anxieties. The CIMC Breast Care Center is a compassionate source for all the services you need. From education and routine screenings, to genetic counseling, diagnostic services and treatment, we're here to help you take care of your health. We provide a comfortable, supportive environment, backed by all the resources of the Caribbean’s largest family of healthcare services.

        COMPLETE CARE AND SUPPORT: The Center is designed to make the whole experience of breast care easier and more pleasant. No more feeling alone and confused. From the moment you call, you'll be assigned a personal Care Coordinator to guide you through the process. She'll schedule your examinations and consultations and answer your questions along the way. With a Care Coordinator, you always have someone to turn to for guidance and support.

        A QUICK DIAGONSIS: We understand the frustration of waiting for a doctor's call, or the anxiety of waiting for a diagnosis. As a complete source for breast care, we can minimize the wait. Your Care Coordinator can streamline the entire process for your convenience and peace of mind. In almost all circumstances, a woman with a breast problem will be diagnosed and informed of all her treatment options within two days.

        WOMEN HELPING WOMEN: We encourage women to take control of their own care. By talking with women and drawing on our personal experience as women, we're doing our best to meet that goal. We're making breast care simpler, more sensitive, and more focused on education. And our volunteers, many of them breast cancer survivors, can provide the best motivation and support of all.

        EDUCATION AND SCREENING SERVICES: Clinical breast exams and mammograms, Individual and group education on breast self-examination, Breast cancer education, Risk assessment, counseling, and DNA testing for women with a family history of breast cancer or other concerns. Free breast health education with a nurse educator, after screening mammography. Free risk assessment with a nurse.

        DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES: Immediate follow-up on discovery of a breast lump or an abnormal mammogram, Breast exams by experts in breast health, Imaging studies, fine needle aspirations, ultrasound, and biopsy, both ultrasound and stereotactic guided, Treatment for non-malignant conditions, Radiologists on site to answer your questions.

        CANCER TREATMENT SERVICES: The finest technology, clinical tests, and advanced cancer treatments available; Participation in clinical trials; Access to the combined expertise of a team of medical specialists including a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, plastic surgeon, nurse, physical therapist, and social worker; Specialists meet to discuss your situation and determine the best possible treatment options; You are a partner in the decision-making process. We'll give you the time, support, and information you need to make the decision that is right for you.

        Childbirth Education:

        PREVIEW FOR PARENTS: The Friends of CIMC and CIMC's Childbirth Education Program invite you to attend this free offering. You will most benefit by attending in your first or second trimester of pregnancy. Please invite a partner, friend or family member to share this experience with you. This offering will provide you with information concerning your pregnancy and the services available to you through CIMC.

        The program is held in the Luna Center at CIMC from 7:00-10:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Representatives from childbirth education, the lactation consultant service, the doula service, and the H.O.M.E. Program will be available to meet with you. This is followed by a tour of the Family Birth Center and a brief slide presentation. To register call the volunteer office at 323-XXXX.

        TOURS OF THE FAMILY BIRTH CENTER: Group tours of the Family birth Center are offered selected Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Family members are welcome to attend. To register, call 323-XXXX.

        PREGNANCY MASSAGE: This class is for partners to take in early pregnancy. The couple can learn basic massage strokes to enhance comfort and promote relaxation during the pregnancy. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        FIRST PREGNANCY-WEEKLY SERIES OR ONE-DAY WORKSHOP: Classes include the most current information on nutrition, stages of labor, and the birth process. As birth partners, you will learn to use relaxation techniques and comfort measures available to you. These classes include a tour of the Family Birth Center. They are taught by certified instructors and are offered in a five-week series or a one-day workshop format. The same information is provided in each format, but the information is presented at a slightly faster pace in the workshop. In either case, this basic preparation should be completed when you are about 36 weeks gestation. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        PRACTICAL SKILLS FOR GOOD LABOR SUPPORT: This offering is designed to assist couples who are interested in having additional time to practice techniques which provide comfort during labor. Birth partners can improve their relaxation skills, massage skills, and positioning options. This class is especially helpful when taken within a month of your due date.         TEEN WORKSHOP: This class is for teens ages 13-18 years old. During the class you will learn about labor, see a movie, and tour the Family Birth Center. We will show you relaxation techniques and comfort measures to use during your labor. This class has the same content as our other first pregnancy workshop, but also addresses teen issues.         MARVELOUS MULTIPLES CLASS: This class is designed for couples having more than one baby. You will gain understanding of some of the issues specific to the needs of those expecting a multiple birth. You will be in the class with other couples who have the same needs. Attendance will be most beneficial to you in weeks 20-24 of the pregnancy. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        REFRESHER: This class is for you and other couples who have had a baby (or babies) before to review the birth process. The educator will provide you with information specific to this birth. A tour of the Family Birth Center and a sibling rivalry movie are included. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        VAGINAL BIRTH AFTER CESAREAN CLASS: This class is to meet the needs of people planning a VBAC. You will receive a book about VBAC. Your instructor will review comfort measures and relaxation techniques, stages of labor, and sibling rivalry. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        DOULA SERVICE: Doulas are trained labor companions who provide constant, nurturing support during the labor and birth. A doula complements the care of your labor nurse, but does not perform clinical tasks. She will work closely with you and your partner to provide emotional support and encourage your use of natural pain relief methods. Studies have shown that women who have doula-assisted births have shorter labors with fewer interventions.

        Registration for this service is requested before your 35th week of pregnancy. You and your partner will need some time to meet with your doula and discuss your birth plan.         LACTATION CONSULTANT SERVICE: It is a goal of Crescent Isle Medical Center to promote breastfeeding in the community. The Lactation Consultants at the Family Birth Center provide professional support to breastfeeding families by giving families the advantage of education, support, and encouragement. Our board-certified lactation consultants teach CIMC’s breastfeeding classes. They provide care to women in the hospital who are having breastfeeding difficulties and work closely with the maternity nurses and you to promote your breastfeeding efforts. Outpatient and telephone consultation services are available to you as well.

        Our breast-pump sales and rental program is provided as an additional service to the community. There are a variety of pumps available so that we can meet the individual breastfeeding support needs. Decisions about which is the most appropriate pump are based on a number of factors.         BREASTFEEDING: This class is for expectant parents to learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, preparation for and beginning to breastfeed, as well as partner and family support. A certified lactation consultant will help you understand feeding your baby in the first weeks 323-XXXX.

        BACK-TO-WORK BREASTFEEDING: This class is taught by a certified lactation consultant and is designed for women who wish to continue breastfeeding after their return to work or school. This class welcomes babies and partners. You will learn about pump selection, promoting support by your employer, human milk collection and storage, and strategies for maintaining milk supply at work. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        INFANT SAFETY AND CPR: This class is about baby-proofing your home, infant positioning, and home emergencies. CPR demonstration and discussion are included. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        BABY BASICS: This class is about what to expect after the baby's birth. It includes mother's postpartum changes, newborn behavior and feeding, and adjustment to parenthood. Many resources and tips are provided. For more information, call 323-XXXX.

        INFANT MASSAGE: This class is for expectant parents who would like to learn different massage strokes to comfort and relax their baby. You will learn about infant development and the benefits of touch in bonding with a new baby. A certified massage therapist who is also a certified childbirth educator teaches the class.         SIBLING CLASS: This class is for expectant big brothers and sisters ages 2-12. Classes are divided by age groups. A movie, practice diapering a doll or teddy bear, tour of the newborn nursery, and an age appropriate discussion about life with a new baby is included. For more information, call 323-XXXX.
