Kathryn Janeway looked up from her desk as she saw Chakotay, Tom and B’Elanna enter her quarters and she asked, “Is there something I could help you with?”
“Yes there is Kathryn, you are going on shore leave tomorrow for five days and so are we, so we were wondering if you would care to join us for a rafting, fishing, swimming and camping trip?” Chakotay answered her smiling.
“Actually we came here to tell you that you better be ready at seven am tomorrow to go on the trip Chakotay just described. And if you’re not then you’re going as is with out any other cloths.” Seeing Kathryn’s expression change to amusement she continued, “We’re serious you’re coming with us even if we have to drag you to the transporter room, but I lied about the no cloths thing, if we are forced to do that then I will be packing your cloths for you. So you can choose the easy why or the hard way.”
Kathryn couldn’t help smiling at the thought of them trying to make her do something she didn’t want to do. She was trying extremely hard not to laugh but was finding it very hard when they were so serious about dragging her to the transporter room so she said, “I guess I’ll choose the easy way although I liked Chakotay’s way of asking much better.”
“Great, so we’ll meet you here at seven o’clock tomorrow and then we’ll all head to the transporter room and have the best five days of our lives.” Tom said bouncing his head from side to side smiling. “Well we have to go and pack,” he told them pointing at B’Elanna and himself then turning to leave called back over his shoulder, “You don’t need to worry about anything other then personal belonging we have everything already packed enough for the four of us. If you don’t know what to bring ask Chakotay he’ll be more then happy to help.”
“You should be careful Tom, you’re going to be spending the next five days with me and these two woman there will be no witnesses if there was to be a little accident with someone drowning.” Chakotay told him smiling when he saw Tom turn paler as the door closed.
“You’re mean.” Kathryn told him smiling as she shook her head at him.
He just shrugged smiling with his dimples showing and leaned over her desk a little bit and saying, “Though he’s right, I will help you pack if you want.”
“I thank you for the offer and I think for once I’ll accept because I do not know what to pack,” she told him getting up to go and sit on her coach with him following right behind her sitting at the opposite end of the coach. She continued, “How about meeting me here at six o’clock that way we can eat breakfast and then you can help me pack, that is if you still want to by then.”
He couldn’t believe his luck first of all he was going to spend the next five days with the woman he loved second she was inviting him to have breakfast with her and third she was letting him help her pack! “Well I have better go and pack now and get some sleep ‘cause we have to wake up early tomorrow. So I’ll see you at six,” he told her getting up and heading toward the door turning only to see her smile and nod her good byes then left and went and packed his own bag and fall to sleep still smiling.
“Come in.” Kathryn yelled out from her bedroom when she heard her door chime. Stepping out she saw Chakotay standing in the middle of the room holding a medium sized bag in one hand. “Hi, what’s that?” she asked him looking at the bag he had in his hand.
“Hello, this is a water proof bag for your cloths, Tom gave me one for you last night. So how are you?” he asked her as he put the bag down then sat down at the table.
“Good, you?” she replied and then added, “What would you like for breakfast today?”
“I’m great now that I’m with you,” he told her smiling as she started to blush, “As for what to eat I’ll have four pancakes with maple syrup and some herbal tea.”
“Coming right up,” she replied getting up and ordering everything he had asked for plus a plate with three pancakes for herself. Bringing them back to the table she poured a little of the maple syrup on the side of her plate then cutting her pancakes into small pieces and dipping them in syrup one at a time. When she was about half way through she looked up to see Chakotay smiling and staring at her. “What?” she asked him.
“Nothing,” he told her looking down to finish his pancakes but then looking back up to watch her eat some more.
“What!” she demanded glaring at him.
“It’s just the way you’re eating your pancakes,” he replied smiling at her.
“What about the way I’m eating my pancakes?” she asked him.
“It’s cute that’s all,” he said looking back down at his.
“A huh,” she told him shaking her head and rolling her eyes at him.
“Here let me take care of the dished since you made the food,” he said smiling as he grabbed her plate and walked over to the recycler and put the dished in and told it to recycle. “So are we ready to start packing?” he asked her.
“Yes I guess we are,” she replied walking over and grabbing the water proof bag he had brought with him and headed toward the bedroom with him following right behind her.
“So what do I need to pack?” she asked him setting the bag down on her bed.
“Well first you probably should bring a couple pairs of pants, some shorts, T-shirts as well as long sleeve shirts and under garments,” he told her slightly blushing with his last statement luckily she was too busy throwing cloths in to the bag to notice. “You are going to fold those aren’t you?” he asked her then sighed when she shook her head no. So he dumped everything she had just thrown into the bag out on to the bed and started folding each item and putting them back into the bag neatly. Noticing she didn’t have any sweat shirts packed he asked her, “Do you have any sweat shirts?”
“Nope, why do I need some?” she answered looking up at him.
“It would be nice to have some, I’ll let you borrow some of mine, I’ll be right back,” he told her as he got up and left her alone in her bedroom. So she decided she should probably pack her under garments as Chakotay had called them so he wouldn’t be too embarrassed.
As she finished she heard her door chime and she yelled, “Come in.”
“Here you go,” he told her walking through the door to enter her bedroom, smiling warmly at her. Putting one of the sweat shirts on her bed and folding the other laying it on top of her other cloths.
“Thanks,” she said smiling back at him, “I should probably get dresses now, B’Elanna and Tom should becoming in a little while.”
“Okay,” he told her as he walked over to the door he turned back around to give her some advise, “I would recommend wearing your bathing suit under neigh your T-shirt and shorts.”
“Okay,” she said walking over to her drawer, “Which one?” she asked him holding up two swimsuits.
He studied them both equally then answered, “The two piece,” and turned to walk out and sit on her couch.
As he waited for her to come out he heard her voice saying, “Chakotay could you come here for a second.” He got up and went into her bedroom to see her in front of a mirror trying the tie her top but not succeeding, he knew what she wanted him to do so he walked up behind her and told her, “Let me.” And started tying the two pieces together watching her through the mirror and asked, “Double knot?”
“Yes,” she answered bringing her eyes up to look at him through the mirror and blushed slightly when she looked straight into his eyes.
“Tight enough?” he asked her.
“Yeah, thanks,” she answered.
“Anytime Kathryn,” he replied smiling watching her starting to fidget. So he backed off so that she could pull on the gray T-shirt she had chosen to wear along with some silk like shorts that came down to about three inches above her knees.
As she walked over to her bed and picked up her bag she heard her door chime, “Come in.” she called walking out of her bedroom carrying her bag in one hand and Chakotay’s sweat shirt in the other, with Chakotay walking casually behind her. As she looked up to see who entered she wasn’t surprised to see Tom and B’Elanna walk in setting their bags down as soon as they were in the door.
“Sorry we came early but the doctor wants us to drop by so we can get bug repellent and sun block etc.” Tom said rolling his eyes.
“That’s fine, we’re all ready.” Kathryn said signally for everyone to leave to grab their bags so they could all get ready and head down to see the Doctor. Chakotay grabbed her bag before she could so she decided he might as well carry it and nodded her thanks to him.
As they walked in to the corridor B’Elanna asked Tom, “Why aren’t you carrying my bag?”
“Because you have two perfectly fine arms and can carry your own bag!” Tom answered.
“Chakotay’s carrying Kathryn’s bag!” she said in return.
“Come on guys we’re not even five minutes into our vacation and you are all ready fighting, I thought this was going to be the best five days of our lives!” Kathryn said putting her hands on her hips. Then continued by saying, “Lets just go down and see the Doctor.”
“Fine, but I’m not talking to him,” B’Elanna said pointing at Tom and walking in the turbo lift.
“Oh God,” Tom muttered as he stepped in watching Chakotay let Kathryn walk in before him and order the computer to go to sickbay. As the turbo lift doors opened Chakotay waved his arm signaling for Kathryn to go first she nodded her thanks as they all continued to sickbay.
“Here you are,” the Doctor said putting a hypo spray against B’Elanna’s neck then went on to do the same to Kathryn, Chakotay and Tom. “This will make it so you don’t get any type of local sickness, sun burned, or basically anything else,” he told them all. Then continued handing Chakotay four hypo sprays, “This will last for six days and I have been informed that you will gone only five so it should work out but here and four extra hypo sprays just in case. Each of them have the persons name etched into it so you don’t mix them up.”
“Thanks doc,” Chakotay said. “So what bag should we put them in?” he asked the other three.
“B’Elanna’s jammed packed with junk she doesn’t need and mine is also full,” Tom said ignoring the glare he got from B’Elanna.
“I have room in mine,” Kathryn said motioning for Chakotay to put them in her bag. He walked over to where they had set their bags down at and opened up her bag and set them in.
“So now are we ready to go have some fun?” Kathryn asked them all and got two grumbles from Tom and B’Elanna and a smile from Chakotay. “I’ll take that as a no, well I don’t see a point in my going now so I’m going back to my quarters and when you two,” she said pointing at Tom and B’Elanna, “grow up come and get me.”
“Hey no wait, Tom carry B’Elanna’s bag for gods sake!” Chakotay said scrambling to grab Kathryn’s wrist to keep her from leaving.
“But…” Tom started.
“Do it,” Chakotay told him. “You are so not ruining this for the rest of us,” he said bringing Kathryn back toward him letting go of her wrist and moving his hand to fit over hers and but wasn’t surprised when she pulled her hand away from his.
“Fine,” Tom said and went over to grab his and B’Elanna’s bag mumbling something under his breath.
“Thank you baby,” B’Elanna said running over to him and giving him a kiss.
“Anytime,” Tom said wondering why he just didn’t carry it for her in the first place.
“Shall we go then?” Tom asked leaving to go to the transporter room holding both bags in one hand with the other arm wrapped around B’Elanna’s waist.
“Yeah,” Kathryn said and grabbed her bag before Chakotay could and followed them out and toward the transporter room.
Chakotay went and caught up to her and asked, “Can I carry your bag please?”
“No, I can get it thank you,” she said not turning around to look at him.
“Okay,” he said but then got an idea. “Okay, that’s fine,” he told her putting his arm around her and pulled her against him, “this is even better.”
“On second thought yes you can carry my bag,” she said pulling her self away from him and handing him her bag.
As Tom and Chakotay pushed the raft into the river Kathryn watched remembering how Tom had ordered them around for the past thirty minutes. First he took out the camera he had packed then told them to put their bags into the back of the raft which had a water proof container type thing built right in. Then he ordered them to put the raft in the water but that’s where the leadership role had been changed and B’Elanna took over telling Chakotay and Tom to push it in the water.
“Ready?” Chakotay asked Kathryn and B’Elanna.
“Yeah I guess we are,” B’Elanna said walking with Kathryn over to the edge of the chore.
As Tom helped B’Elanna to get on board the raft he had a great idea and said, “Have a nice swim babe.” As he let her go and seeing the shock on her face grabbed her arm just before she was about to hit the water and pulled her back in all the way.
“You son of a bitch,” B’Elanna said hitting him in the ribs and laughing when his expression changed to pain.
“Sorry but it was just so funny. You didn’t need to hit me though,” Tom said laughing as he forgot about the pain.
“Come on I’ll help you in,” Chakotay said reaching out to take Kathryn’s hand. But seeing the doubt in her eyes he added, “Trust me.”
“Yeah right,” she muttered but seeing she had little choice took his hand and was relieved when she was safely in the raft with out getting soaked.
“I told you I wouldn’t let you go,” Chakotay said smiling still holding her hand.
“Yes you did,” she replied smiling then pulled her hand away from his.
Slightly disappointed he asked, “So does everyone know how to raft?”
“No, Kathryn and I don’t,” B’Elanna said answering for both her and Kathryn.
“Okay, I’ll help you and Chakotay can help Kathryn,” Tom said moving over to hand B’Elanna and Kathryn a paddle.
“Okay, so how exactly do I hold this?” Kathryn asked Chakotay as she took the paddle from Tom.
“Well you need to hold it like this,” he told her taking it from her and holding it in his hands giving her an example.
“Like this?” she asked taking it from him trying to copy his earlier example.
“No. May I?” he asked her putting his arms around her before getting an answer he moved his hands over hers and put them in the right places along the paddle. Hesitating momentarily before letting her go.
“Thanks, I know how to do the rest, I’ve actually tried rafting on many occasions,” she said leaning back against the side of the raft.
“Oh, but B’Elanna said you…” he started but was interrupted by B’Elanna, “I just didn’t want to be the only one who didn’t know how to raft.”
“So are we ready to go?” Tom asked looking around the raft to see everyone nod. They had just spent the last two hours trying to teach B’Elanna how to paddle the raft, but had to finally give up after almost tipping the raft on four different occasions. “Okay then lets go,” he said motioning for everyone but B’Elanna to get a paddle and soon they were out in the middle of the river floating peacefully along at a slow pace.
“Hey Kathryn come up here,” B’Elanna shouted down the boat.
“What’s up?” Kathryn asked B’Elanna as she sat down next to her in the front of the raft.
“I think we need to take off our shirts and give the guys something to look at,” B’Elanna replied smiling.
“You’ve got to be kidding, I mean you can if you want to but I’m not going to,” Kathryn said shaking her head.
“Come on what could happen?”
“Oh I could think of about a million of things that could happen.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, nothing will happen trust me. It’ll be fun.” B’Elanna promised smiling.
“Fine,” Kathryn said moving so she could pull off her shirt.
“Great!” B’Elanna said pulling her shirt off and throwing it toward the middle of the raft.
“Damn, Chakotay I think it just might be your lucky day man,” Tom said staring in the direction of B’Elanna and Kathryn.
“What? Why?”
“Look over there.”
Chakotay turned his head to look in the direction Tom was pointing and his mouth dropped open and his eyes widened at the site of his Captain, Kathryn, pulling off her shirt revealing the same dark blue bikini top he had helped her with earlier. As she threw her shirt toward the middle of the raft she caught him looking at her and quickly turned away blushing. Chakotay shook his head and turned back to Tom saying, “Damn she’s hot.”
“I would have to agree with you there,” Tom answered looking back at Kathryn smiling but adding quickly when he saw the dangerous look he received from Chakotay, “I mean that with all due respect, don’t worry man, I have my own woman. I’m not going to try and take Kathryn away from you. Though I doubt you have anything to worry about any ways.”
“What could it hurt?” Kathryn said rolling her eyes. “Did you see the way Chakotay was looking at me? Now he’s probably going to get the wrong idea! And it’s all your fault!”
“It didn’t hurt anything Kathryn, relax. Yes I saw the way Chakotay was looking at you and I also saw all the desire in his eyes. You know you really should give the guy a chance, he’s obviously in love with you and you two would make the best couple ever! Give him a chance, I’ve seen the was you’ve looked at him before also and I saw the same thing I just saw in Chakotay’s eyes so don’t even try to deny that you love him!” B’Elanna said leaning back up against the raft quickly pulling away again adding, “Damn this thing gets hot, you want to know what we need? We need pillows and I think I know just where to find some.” She said smiling starting to move to the back of the raft where Tom and Chakotay were.
“I swear I’m never going on vacation with you again you think you know every thing about every one and you don’t! Sure you might be right in this case but I know that on many occasions you have been wrong!” Kathryn answered moving with her to join the guys in the back of the raft.
“Oh and you’re never wrong?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Okay just making sure, but you said I was right in this case?” B’Elanna asked sitting down in front of Tom leaning back against his knees.
“Yes you are right in this case. At least about me but I don’t know about him,” Kathryn said shrugging her shoulders as she sat down in front of Chakotay. “Hey Chakotay you don’t mind if I use you as a pillow do you?” she asked him turning her head back to see him shake his head no. “Good.”
Unlike Tom he had his legs separated so he pulled her between them wrapping his arms around her bare waist. She tensed for a moment but continued her conversation with B’Elanna.
“Are you sure about that Kathryn?”
“Yes as a matter of fact I am.”
“Would some one care to clue us in on your guy’s conversation?” Tom asked separating his legs like Chakotay and pulling B’Elanna into his arms just like Chakotay.
“No,” B’Elanna said leaning against him smiling at Kathryn.
“Fine then be that way,” Tom said rolling his eyes.
Kathryn leaned back against Chakotay letting his arms tighten around her it felt nice being held by him so safe and secure. She felt his head move down and felt his lips gently brush against her shoulder this made a shiver run down her back.
“Are you okay?” Chakotay whispered in her ear taking in her sent.
“Um hum.”
“Kathryn can I tell you something?”
“Yes.”
Shifting so that he could look into her eyes he whispered, “I love you more then anything else in the universe and I gods know that I don’t deserve you but I want and need you. I wake up each morning just because I know that I’ll get to hear your voice and see your face. You are the only thing I live for. When you’re happy I’m happy and when you’re sad I’d do anything to make you smile. And I know that you have no reason to give me a chance but when I into you eyes I know the reason why I am alive. You’re all that I could ever possibly want and more then I could ever hope to be allowed to have.”
She could see that he was telling the truth just by the look in his eyes. Leaning closer she whispered into his ear, “I love you too.” Shifting so that they were at their previous position he put his arms back around her hugging her against his chest, bringing his head down to rest with hers with their cheeks touching.
She enter twined her fingers with his smiling she said, “Well B’Elanna I guess you were right after all but you still don’t know everything.”
“You know I could say I told you so but I won’t because I bigger then that!”
As they all got ready to be transported back to Voyager Kathryn smiled and said, “Well Tom for once you were right, this has been the best five days of my life.”
“Your life isn’t over yet Kathryn,” Chakotay whispered into her ear as she felt the familiar tingle of the transporter.
