I often look back on all the things I've left
And wonder when it was
I lost the joy of laughter
And yes, I have to pause
Friendships left unfinished
Memories left undone
They strip you of your humor
Make your life less fun
Sometimes I wish I could return
To a happier time
When friends were all around me
For that was my life in its prime
I wish to God this wasn't happening
That I wasn't leaving again
Maybe fate is telling me something
That with love and joy there's always pain
I wish I could make you understand
Just what I'm going through
That the thing that makes this worst of all
Is what I'm gonna lose
And maybe someday I'll find
The laughter that I've lost
The thing I wonder most
Is what'll be the cost
