Sacrifices
Sacrifices
By Nicole
Go for a walk, smile at the sun
Watch the children as they have their fun
Feel the cool breeze, caressing your face
Let yourself go back to that old place
You were with him, life was simple bliss
All of it changed with just one small kiss
Just on the cheek, to show him you cared
He grabbed your hand, it was as you feared
Forbidden love was of what he told
He wanted more, someone he could hold
Once upon a time, he was your best friend
Why choose a road leading to a dead end?
Things could not go back to what they were
You sat silent, both confused, unsure
He tried to smile, said he'd walk you back
One tear fell, your heart began to crack
Then it shattered, he gave you a hug
Apologized for his love with a shrug
He left you there standing all alone
Your heart melted. His was hard as stone
You shake your head at the memory
Grin at the boy climbing up a tree
'Momma!' he calls, you hold out your hands
He runs to you, your love he demands
No time for you, was your solemn swear
To this child you'd give all that was there
Sacrifices had had to be made
But you were sure that the pain would fade
The man you loved had deserved more
Than a widow with a child of four
He'll find another, one better suited
You'll go on, your love ever muted
