Midnight Visits

Midnight Visits

I wake to a rapping on my window.
Smiling, I jump to see
I thrust up the pane and see him,
His eyes sparkling, glistening in the moonlight.

He leaps through, and whispers,
"How are you, my love?"
And he smiles, with his pearly teeth, inviting lips,
We kiss, long and sweet

"You can’t be here," I whisper.
"They don’t like you with me."
He leaps on the bed and cries,
"Mere mortals cannot keep me from the one I love!"

I smile, loving his antics,
But remember their harsh words.
"It is not love you feel," and
"He will hurt you once he’s through."

The nights are all we have now,
Stolen looks, forbidden kisses.
For what do they know of love?
He and I are meant to be!

Fate insists someday they’ll find out,
But we’ll have many nights before they do.
I am his, he is my world!
And perhaps it is enough.

For now.
