~She rolls the window down
The silence in the car was deafening. Michael felt like he was
about to scream when Maria finally complained: "Geez, it's stuffy in
here," and rolled the window down. Even though it was late at night,
there were still a few cars out on the roads. One was passing by just
as she opened her mouth to speak again, so she had to talk louder.
"Where are you taking me, Spaceboy?"
"I'm abducting you!" They both cracked up at his joke, and the mood began to lighten. "Seriously though; there's a place out here that I wanna show you. I used to come out here all the time. Mostly it was to get away from Hank, but not always.
"This place is really special to you, isn't it?" she asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah, it is," he replied. That's why I'm taking you there, he thought.
~Would ya look at her as she looks at me
He looked over at her only to meet his eyes with her own. Then, it was almost as if he was in a trance. Just looking into her eyes.
"Could you watch the road!?" Maria shrieked wildly as the car veered off the path.
"Sorry," he muttered insincerely.
"How did you even get your drivers' license?" she asked, exasperated. "You blow up people's engines and, you can't even keep the car on the road!"
Through his snickers, he managed to get out: "We're here."
"We are? There's nothing around for miles."
"I know. That's why I always liked it."
~She was the one to hold me
"Maria, there's something I wanna tell you. I'm not too good with doing stuff like this, so bear with me, okay?" She nodded silently. " I wanted to say thank you for putting up with me. For being there for me. Especially the other night. I knew it was a long shot, going to your house, but it was the only shot I had.
You let me cry out all my emotions, and you didn't even ask for an explanation." He reached out and brushed her cheek with his fingers. She covered his hand with her own as tears welled up in her eyes.
"I know I'm not the easiest person in the world to be around, by any stretch of the imagination. And I don't know why you haven't given up on me yet. We both know I have," he finished.
"I can't give up on you. I've tried. I've tried so hard, but I just couldn't. And I never knew why," she replied, and the tears fled from her eyes and over her cheeks.
~Right now, face to face
Using both of his hands to brush away her tears, he didn't notice when his own face became wet, and she was doing the same. He looked into her eyes again, and was grateful that wasn't driving. He would have ended up crashing the car if he had.
Slowly he lowered his face to hers. Softly kissing her lips, he realized: I'm crazy for this girl!

Summery:  Michael takes Maria to a special place of his out in the desert. Takes place after "Independence Day"
Author’s Note:  I have always liked this song by Evan and Jaron, but I never realized that I could write a songfic with it. Feedback: Yeah, sure. I'll take good or bad, but please be gentle, this is only my second fic!
And she talks over the sound
Of the cars that pass us by
And I don't know why
But she's changed my life~
She's got me thinking about her constantly
But she don't know how I feel
Well she carries on without a doubt
I wonder if she's figured it out
I'm crazy for this girl
Yeah, I'm crazy for this girl~
The night the sky fell down
And what was I thinking when
The world didn't end
Why didn't I know what I know now~
All my fears pushed aside
And right now
I'm ready to spend the rest of my life
With you~
