Toad
Toad (Normal)Toad (Costume)

Real Name: Todd Tolensky

Mutant Powers: Superhuman strength in legs (allowing him to hop); 20-foot-long green tongue; ability to spit slime; a spine that is more flexible than normal

Voice Actor: Noel Fisher

First Appearance: "Strategy X"

Back Story: Toad is one of the few main characters in the show who isn't really given much of a backstory. He was just some kid at Bayville that Mystique convinced to join her then-fledgling team. (A note is that he's also one of the few characters that has apparently always lived in Bayville.) He's apparently orphaned, or isn't very close to his parents, or something. According to Xavier's "future visions" at the end of the series, Toad will stay with his Brotherhood buddies, but they'll eventually break off from Mystique and work for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Personality: Heh heh. Toad is my favorite character on the show, hands down. He's pretty much the "funny man" of the series, almost always being used for comic relief. He's one of those guys that tries to act all "cool", but he's obviously not. He tended to get picked on a lot at school before it was revealed that he was a Mutant. Given his very weird powers, he can do some pretty funny stuff with them, and his hopping around looks pretty funky, too. He's generally the Brotherhood punching bag, and gets hurt in nearly every episode he's in in rather amusing ways. He still remains steadfastly loyal to the Brotherhood cause, although Mystique's almost constant abandoning of them seems to be wearing against him a little. Despite his occasional abuse at the hands of Avalanche or Blob, he still remains good friends with both of them, and visa versa. He remains pretty fearful of Mystique, however. Oh, and he's developed a crush on the Scarlet Witch, but it's a completely one-sided relationship, heh. However, Toad can get serious when need be, and despite all his light-hearted comedy, he's definitely not a "good-guy"- he enjoys when he and the Brotherhood take down someone, whether he knows them personally or not. I suppose he's just angry at the world for giving him these weird powers, although he hides it through comedy. He generally stinks at fighting by himself, though, and almost always gets beat up in a fight.

Final Reflections: Despite what many may think, Toad WASN'T just the comedic relief of the series, even though he was darned good comedic relief. Even though his serious, depressed side didn't show through much, it still did- namely in the first episode of the series and in the third comic. So even the comedic relief character in this series is multi-faceted. Wow. And he's certainly a lot better than any of the other incarnations of Toad, which ranged from merely tolerable to incredibly annoying to downright ridiculous. Kudos, Evo team!
