Lord of the Rings -a trilogy by JRR Tolkien, telling the heart-filled tale of an evil and the people who dared to oppose it. Nine companions must come together to unite their races and destroy the one thing that could give the enemy dominance over their world: the Ring of Power; One Ring to rule them all...
The Silmarillion -also by JRR Tolkien, this holds within its binding the chilling mythology of the world known as Middle-Earth. It focuses mostly on the journeys and doings of the Elves in the First Age, but also of the beloved Valar and the dreaded Morgoth who dwelled in what at that time was known as Angband. The peoples of Middle-Earth fight for their world and for what is rightfully theirs... or is it?
The Dragonlance Chronicles -a trilogy by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, telling the breathtaking tale of the world as it was after the Cataclysm. Trust often leads to betrayal; love often leads to loss; and obligation often leads to sacrifice. Several companions must unite a world that has long been divided to drive out the evil of their lands. But their greatest battle may have to be faught within themselves; for secrets are more dangerous than a thousand dragons. Magic, friendship, love... evil, betrayal, loss.
Dune -by Frank Herbert. This excellent book deals with the weakened House Atreides, the corrupted House Harkonnen, and one boy caught in the middle. The heir to his murdered father, Paul Atreides discovers a new destiny laid before him. Being the long-awaited Muad'Dib, Paul must drive out the corrupt Harkonnen rule, and unravel the mystery of the planet Arrakis. But what will this mystery bring once it is revealed?
Earthsea -a four-book series by Ursula K. Le Guin. In the world of Earthsea, a young wizard must mend the wrongs he caused before others suffer at his hand. I hear from others that this series is excellent, and so I pass the word onto you. I myself have not read this, but I plan to as soon as I finish Dragonlance.
Medalon -by Jennifer Fallon. The first of the Demon Child series. I have not read it, but Logan, a fellow fantasy-reader, tells me it is excellent. The distant land of Medalon is now under the oppressive rule of the Sisters of the Blade. R'shiel and her half-brother decide to follow their own path, but their lives take an unimaginable turn once leaving the Citadel and they're hunted down as traitors. Meanwhile, far south a Harshini outcast is called to find the demon child, the half-human child of the dead Harshini King. Are their fates sealed in eachothers missions?
